Rent or borrow a humane trap. The SPCA and other animal shelters rent them out for $100. When you return the trap you get your $100 back. Place the trap near where the cat escaped. Put some of the cat's favorite food and treats inside of the trap along with an article of your clothing with your scent on it. This method worked for me on two different occasions. If you trap the wrong cat or some other animal, put a blanket over the trap leaving the door exposed. Stand behind the trap and release the animal. Reset the trap. Time is of the essence so do this asap. Good luck and God bless.

I recommend going to Walmart today & buying some motion activated cameras to place outside the doors you think it’s possible your cat may have escaped through. The reason being if they did get outside, they’re most likely to return to their exit point during the night & the cameras should help you determine which door they escaped through. Tonight, place some dirty laundry outside the doors they may have escaped through for scent. Do not put their litter box outside because doing that will draw in other male cats in your neighborhood who will prevent them from returning. You can absolutely try going outside during the night for a brief period, sitting down & talking to them to see if they’ll come to you or respond. Don’t be surprised if they don’t though. My indoor cat never revealed himself or responded when I was outside looking for him. If your cat did get outside & you get a sighting on a camera at night, then the following night you can try leaving that door open enough for them to come back in. If you do this, stay inside once you leave the door open & keep outside & bright inside lights off. If they do walk back in, wait until they’re well inside before you walk slowly to the door to close it. Secure any other pets in another room if necessary. The cameras are impotant because they will tell you what door they’re coming to at night & they’ll tell you if your cat is approaching when you leave the door open for them to come back in. A humane trap set outside the exit point is another option, but again you’ll need to determine where their exit point was by using a camera so you know where to set up the trap at dark. Don’t forget to check the screens in your windows to make sure your cat didn’t escape by pushing out a screen. If you determine that is how your cat got out, then setting a humane trap under that window & having it set at dark is how you’ll proceed. Again, monitor the trap by camera or from an inside window. Do not go outside once you set the trap. You want your cat to feel safe approaching your house & if you’re outside walking around after dark, your cat likely will not approach.

Lost house cats usually do not go far. Look in,under, on top of all structures/trees in the near vicinity. Have a flashlight with you as his/her eyes will reflect in the dark. If you do see him/her, no sudden movements. Have some treats or his/her food with you. Also, if you can leave a door or window slightly open, he/she may come back in their own. Keep an ear to the outside after dark. Many kitties come back after dark and meow to be let back in. Leave a piece of clothing with your scent near the open space that is helpful.Have neighbors look in garages, sheds and other structures. Also if you did not see him/her get out or know for sure she/he did, check every inch of your house, she/he could be trapped or hiding somewhere. Good Luck!!
