📌 FOUND AND KEPT DOGS We have a VERY high number of pets found and kept in the valley. Especially in certain areas like Phoenix and Glendale. Probably around 50%-70% of found small dogs are kept, and to be honest it's probably way higher than that. It's weird that it happens most in Phoenix and Glendale. :( People like to call it “rescuing” the dog, but really, it’s theft. See, pets are considered personal property, and under Arizona state law, you have to do an owner search for several days before you can keep someone else’s pet, or rehome it. Those of you that find pets and keep them are breaking someone’s heart, destroying families and ruin lives. I’m not being dramatic. I’ve been on the phone with owners having panic attacks, chest pains, crying for over an hour on the phone with me, severely depressed… Some even have to go to the emergency room… because you thought it was if it’s free - it must be for ME. YOU ARE NOT A GOOD PERSON IF YOU FIND AND KEEP SOMEONES PET WITHOUT DOING AN OWNER SEARCH. What happened to being a good person and doing the right thing? Do better. Flyers without a reward absolutely DO NOT work on finder keepers / thieves. Most of the time a flyer WITH a reward won’t work on them either, but if might work on their neighbors. THAT is why you put a reward. 👎Flyers without reward 👎Posting without reward ✅Reward if offered immediately

It's very important for you to consider your situation based on a few things: 📍Your dog's breed- how far is that breed known to travel per day? 📍If it is friendly or skittish and will just keep running? What are the risk factors in your area? 1. Is it a high traffic area? 2. Is it a low income area? Prone to being found and kept? 3. Is it a high coyote risk area? 📍Golf course communities - super high risk! 📍Properties on the edge of town. 📍Or a coyote or two are known to live in the area? If you consider your particular case on day one, there are certain things that make a big difference in getting your pet back quickly and safely. Most give suggestions to put flyers up and run to the shelter but I truly believe for the quick and safe results, we've got to start looking at each case individually and give owners the best suggestions for THEIR situation. If you live in a high risk zone leaving for 2 hours to go to the shelter can cost you your pet. Sure check in the shelter is a should be done, but if you post in the right place immediately and get your dog back you don't need to do all the other things. Posting all over the place is NOT the goal. Posting to the right people in the right place quickly is! 🔥 For most dogs they are within a 1 to 3 mile radius of the house on day one. THAT is where you want to post to get the word out. IMMEDIATELY AND FREQUENTLY. 1. Ask yourself what is the best method to: 📍Reach people in the 1 to 3 mile radius? 📍On a large scale? 📍Immediately? DO THAT! 2. What is the best way to get EVERYONE paying attention to YOUR DOG? (I'll give you a hint: it's not -Begging for help -Saying your dog needs -Explaining how much you love your dog -Sharing how you bottle fed it since it was a baby These things do not motivate finders keepers nor thieves to give your dog back. 👎 3. FINDERS KEEPERS: if someone finds your dog and decides it's cute and they want to keep it posting lots of flyers is not going to get them to give your dog back. When that doesn't work? Posting "more" flyers also does not work. Let's not forget the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Unfortunately, pets are found and kept daily in low income neighborhoods. Thieves only speak one language. So ask yourself what would motivate a thief to give the dog back? DO THAT! Owners that wait a week often never see their pets ever again.

Your dog is at risk of being Stolen Hit by a car and Attacked by other dogs Or grabbed by Coyotes Why would you not have a reward on your dog from day one? If you are serious about finding your pet it's vital. Especially if it's cute and tiny. "Nice people" will "keep an eye out," dog lovers also, everyone else is busy or doesn't care. To get EVERYONE involved (if you really want your dog back) I would put a reward. Time is of the essence! To get EVERYONE paying attention IMMEDIATELY I would have put REWARD! with the amount major intersection and city in the first sentence of my post! By the way please do not waste time putting the word reward without the amount. Nobody pays attention to that. Hope you find your dog.
