If you have not, please contact nonemergency police department in case anyone reports missing, they can contact you and leave a message for animal control and then fill out a lost dog form on Connecticut Dog on recovery volunteer network. They will help you also leave something with your scent on it outside in case he tries to find his way back home like a dog bed or blanket, and if you are a neighbor, if not find a neighbor who does a post on the ring camera will cover your whole Neighborhood.

More tips : Contact: CT Dog Gone Recovery for immediate support and search assistance. Have a recent photo ready. If your dog is missing: πŸ” SEARCH CLOSE FIRST Most dogs that slip out or get loose stay within a few blocks of home. β€’ Bring treats, a leash, and something that smells familiar β€’ Call calmly and gently β€’ Do NOT chase β€” scared dogs often run farther 🏑 CHECK EVERY POSSIBLE HIDING SPOT Ask neighbors to check: β€’ Garages β€’ Sheds β€’ Under decks β€’ Bushes and porches Also contact: β€’ Local Animal Control β€’ Non-emergency police department β€’ Nearby shelters and veterinary offices ⚠️ Turn off any electric/invisible fence on your property in case your dog is afraid to cross back over it. πŸ“’ GET THE WORD OUT FAST Post in: β€’ Local Facebook groups & town pages β€’ Nextdoor β€’ PawBoost Repost at different times of day for better visibility. πŸ“„ MAKE SIMPLE FLYERS Include: β€’ Large β€œLOST DOG” headline β€’ Clear recent photo β€’ Phone number in large font β€’ Last seen location 🧠 IMPORTANT TIPS β€’ Search early morning and late evening when it’s quieter β€’ Leave bedding or a worn shirt outside your home-hang high if possible to allow scent to travel further β€’ Keep one person home in case your dog returns on its own β€’ Offer a reward if possible ⚠️ SAFETY REMINDERS β€’ Do not chase β€’ Sit low, stay calm, and use a soft voice β€’ If someone says they found your dog, ask for proof before handing over any reward or information S/N: Cats and dogs often stay close to home. Please spay/neuter and microchip your pets if you haven’t already. There are many hazards and dangers outdoors.

I asked AI : Here are a few highly effective action steps to help get the word out locally right away: β€’ Notify local Animal Control & Shelters: Call East Hartford Animal Control immediately to report him missing, and check in with neighboring town shelters (like Hartford, Manchester, and South Windsor) just in case he wanders across town lines. β€’ Contact Local Police Non-Emergency: Sometimes residents call the local police department directly if they spot a large dog roaming, so it’s great to make sure they have a log of Smoke. β€’ Post on Nextdoor: If you haven't yet, post this exact flyer on the Nextdoor app. It targets immediate neighbors by neighborhood radius and is incredibly effective for active local sightings. β€’ Check Ring / Neighbors App: You don’t need a Ring doorbell to use the free Ring Neighbors app. Post his details there, as many people check their security cameras when they see a lost pet alert. β€’ Leave Out Familiar Scents: Put a piece of your worn clothing, his favorite bed, or a smelly blanket outside your door. Dogs have an incredible sense of smell and can use it to orient themselves back home. β€’ Don't Chase if Spotted: If you get a sighting update, remind people to not chase or call out aggressively, as even friendly dogs can go into "survival mode" and run. Ask them to note the direction he is heading and text you immediately. Keeping my fingers crossed that Smoke is found safe and sound very soon!"
