Posted on Lost and Found birds of the US. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1LoMcsvCbu/?mibextid=wwXIfr We are so sorry to hear your birds are missing. Here are some ideas to assist in your search. *Create a post on Pawboost, NextDoor & Ring, if you haven’t already. *During the daytime: use a wireless Bluetooth speaker to broadcast flock calls or your voice, shake treat bags or anything that might attract attention to food, put the cage out where it can be seen. *During the evening when searching is over, design & print off flyers with photo & contact information. These can be encased in a ziplock to keep weatherproof & posted in areas where allowed like parks, poles & any nearby gathering areas. Also drop off some at vet clinics, pet supply stores, anything within a 5 mile radius. Contact local shelters/rescues & even the police dept - they do pick up found/stray pets all the time. Make sure the world knows - neighbors esp ones that have bird feeders/baths/pools. Hand them out while searching the area. Join every local social media group there is. Run an ad in your local newspaper - some run one for free in lost & found (or cheap). Also check with local bird watcher groups - they’re always out & about. Flyers cannot be placed in mailboxes. *PLEASE CHECK WITH LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS & FILE A MISSING PET REPORT*

Phase 1: Immediate Recovery (The First 24 Hours) The "Flock" Strategy: Play Budgie/Parakeet flock calls on a loop through a loud Bluetooth speaker. Budgies are social and will often fly toward the sound of "other" birds when they are lost and scared. Station the Cage: Place their cage as high as possible (a balcony, sturdy ladder, or high table) near the escape point. Leave the door wide open and zip-tie a large sprig of millet spray to the entrance. It is the most recognizable "high-value" treat for them. Stay Put and Listen: The owner should sit quietly near the cage. Budgies are small and camouflage well in trees; you will almost always hear their "chatter" or "contact calls" before you see them. Vertical Scanning: Look up. Budgies naturally seek the highest point for safety. Check power lines, gutters, and the tops of evergreen trees (like the ones behind that Albertsons). Phase 2: Community Mobilization Door-to-Door Flyers: For birds, physical flyers within a 3-block radius are more effective than social media. Many people will see a "weird bird" in their yard but won't check Facebook. The "Friendly Stranger" Factor: Mention in posts that these birds are tame. They may eventually get hungry and fly down to a stranger's shoulder or a bird feeder. Ask neighbors to keep an eye on their feeders and birdbaths. Nextdoor & Local Apps: Post on Nextdoor specifically for the Unthank St / 97402 area. It targets the immediate neighbors who are most likely to spot them. Phase 3: The "Catch" Technique No Chasing: If they are spotted, do not run toward them. This triggers their flight instinct. The Lure: Sit on the ground nearby, play the bird sounds quietly, and hold out a spray of millet. If they are on a low branch, try to get them to hop onto a familiar perch or the cage itself rather than a hand. The Mist Method (Advanced): If a bird is low enough but won't come down, a very light mist from a garden hose can make their wings heavy enough that they can't fly high, allowing for a safe retrieval. Only attempt this if they are within reach and it is not too cold. Crucial Reminder for the Owner: Budgies often go into "stealth mode" (total silence) when a predator (like a hawk or crow) is nearby. If the area goes quiet, don't give up—they are likely just hiding and will start calling again once they feel safe.
