Cookie's Owner Says

COOKIE NEWS! A lady that I took a flyer and said she would keep an eye out, called last Saturday to say she saw a cat. She noticed it again at dusk in the same spot. I hiked the woods in the heat getting cuts from Cat Claws plants. I searched in the rain! A young man who was voluntarily helping, caught 4 possums in the traps he laid out. Last night it was raining when we set out the trap with a plastic covering and sign, placed my pillow case inside with some food. Less than an hour later, I got the call from another lady saying, Liz, there is a kitty in the trap! We drove right away hoping it was Cookie but I never really expected to find her after she was gone over a month!!!😀👍❤️❤️ Thank you!

I'm sorry your beautiful mackerel brown tabby and white escaped into uncharted territory, but please try to remain hopeful. Cookie will not go far -- she's likely hiding in the first, best spot she could find, too scared to come when called or emerge in the daylight. Does the clinic or any businesses or residences in the area have security cameras and did they see in which direction Cookie took off? This is what I suggest: Is Pet Shots an actual location, or did this occur in a parking lot? Alert everyone nearby in case Cookie is hiding in the vicinity (and ask if anyone in the area has security cameras) then, if there’s time before dark and you can search without dislodging her from her hiding spot, focus your efforts close to where she was last seen and tiptoe around in the daylight using a flashlight, but be quiet and discreet so as not to frighten her, (shhh! DO NOT CALL or shake treats -- it's best to sneak up on him) check every crack and crevice, look in, under and around sheds, vehicles, furniture, under foundations, into trees etc. but suspend searching when it gets dark to give Cookie the chance to emerge voluntarily. At dusk (or overnight if you have the chance) lay a familiar blanket in a discreet location near where she was last visualized. Sit low to the ground and open some tempting food. Call her softly to provide a familiar sound and direction (she won't come on command) and give Cookie some quiet time to emerge. If she approaches don't make any sudden moves -- wait until she's close enough and pinch her scruff (to calm her) but don't let go until she's safely contained. If she doesn't show herself and you cannot wait any longer, leave something familiar (such as worn socks or teeshirt, an old shoe, etc.) to which she may gravitate in a few safe places (under shrubs, for example) along with some nourishing food. As long as Cookie finds something familiar and/or eats, she should stay put, providing additional chances to snag her. Bottom line, if you cannot get Cookie to emerge and approach, your objective will be to identify a feeding location so you can eventually trap her, if necessary. Please keep me updated. I'm hopeful for some good news.

Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Mainly their litter box and sprinkle their used litter around the yard as they'll recognize the smell and it'll deter other animals from coming around. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one and to check their cameras in case they appeared on them to get a sense of direction they could be. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.
