This is info I share with families that I am helping to capture their kitties. This information is for both indoor and outdoor cats. An indoor kitty will not travel far (usually within a 4 house radius). Once out, they will hunker down for a few days and not move. They do this for their own safety. Put out your dirtiest clothing. Open a can of tuna or sardines and drizzle the juice from the house to the wood line and to the street/sewer. Go out late (10:30/11:00pm) and shake treats and use a flashlight to try and catch their eyes. Leave a box with the dirty laundry by the front door and make sure there are 2 openings. If they come back, they may stay in the box. Ask neighbors to check garages and sheds. Make sure another cat isn't bullying your cat preventing them from coming home. This can happen if you put the litter box out, therefore, please don't . Look under ALL porches, sheds and decks. Also look up in trees. Ask neighbors to also check their ring cameras. Post on pawboost.com, petcolovelost.org and nextdoor. If it's mating season (roughly April to August but not set in stone), even if spayed or neutered they may be out for a few. It could be up to 3 weeks but for some reason three weeks is the magic number. I promise you scent works! Putting liter out will attract predators and will cause territory issues with other cats possibly preventing your cat from getting home. Check pawboost and Petco Love lost often, especially if your pet is not chipped as many rescues are pulling from the shelters to help with overcrowding. Also, if chipped, notify the microchip company as soon as you can, make sure everything is up to date and make sure that they put on the pets account that he is missing and to not transfer ownership. I wish you luck! If you see the kitty and are unable to secure, let me know and we can set a humane trap. apture their kitties. This information is for both indoor and outdoor cats. Catnip and RVA community cats as they are a group of individuals that does trap neuter and release and many feed at feral colonies. Maybe your cat has inadvertently been picked up or has shown up at one of their feeding colonies.
