LOOKING FOR HIS ORIGINAL OWNERS (he originally arrived at OCAS as a stray on 7/2). Found MALE DOG in CLERMONT, FL 34711 is at OCAS. His name at the shelter is KODA and he originally arrived at Orange County Animal Services as a stray on 7/2/2026. Animal ID: A575383 He is now on the EUTHANASIA LIST and his DEADLINE is TUESDAY 9/15. He must be reclaimed by OWNER or find FOSTER/RESCUE or he will be euthanized by the shelter. If you know his owners, please alert them ASAP! If you can foster him for a rescue, email the shelter’s rescue coordinator (see info on the picture). Debbie Grey I understand that OCAS is bound by county statutes and that they are required to report a bite when one is disclosed to them. I’m not disputing that. What I am questioning is whether you are suggesting that the bite statute somehow overrides every other applicable statute — including those involving animal abuse, neglect, cruelty, or failure to provide proper care. Are you saying the county’s responsibility is simply to accept whatever the owner, finder, or other person tells them at the time Animal Control becomes involved, without independently investigating whether there are additional violations? Because if that is the position, then you have actually highlighted a much larger problem with how animal cruelty and neglect cases are handled. A bite can absolutely be documented and disclosed while the circumstances surrounding that bite are also investigated. Reporting a bite does not erase the possibility of abuse or neglect, nor should it prevent law enforcement or Animal Control from looking at the entire situation. Animals should not be protected by a system that simply accepts a human’s version of events at face value. The responsibility should be to investigate the whole picture — including the animal’s condition, the circumstances surrounding the incident, and whether any other laws or ordinances have been violated. That is how animals are supposed to be protected: not by choosing one statute and ignoring everything else, but by applying all applicable laws and investigating the facts.

Karin Snitz bound by county statutes, the shelter has no choice but to report what they are told. There are different degrees of bites and not all of them require medical care. A bite does not have to be severe in order to matter. It still has to be divulged. Not everyone that gets bit seeks medical care or reports it either. That doesnt mean the bite didnt happen.

Debbie Grey are there two Dog bite Records? Emergency room visits, Urgent Care or even a Doctor office that would definitively state this dog did in fact bite. Or are we supposed to just always take, and accept whatever a guardian/owner of a dog says as fact?
