there are people who will try claiming animals that aren't legally theirs. some have the intention of selling them for profit, harming or abusing them or using them for breeding. people can generate realistic AI images to fake "proof of ownership". here are some other forms of proof you can ask for

if there comes a point where you can no longer host the dog, finders have a legal obligation to take to the shelter or call animal control. shelters are the first place families look, continue looking, and may not be on social media. thank you for being a great finder

thank you for securing someone's lost pet, keeping safe and posting. the easiest and quickest way for a finder to reunite a lost pet is have them scanned for a chip. if this pup is chipped they could be back home in a few hours.. please make sure they scan the whole body and the legs. scanning a second time is always recommended just to be sure. microchips are known to migrate over time and can be missed
