am with Bring Ace Home. Most indoor cats that get out, hide in the closest place they find like under a deck, porch or shed or in bushes. They can hide in the tiniest places. Here are some tips we use to find lost cats. They are a lot, but they usually work. First thing, get a feeding station set up near the door the cat got out. (Stinky strong smelling food like mackerel, tuna or Rotisserie chicken). You need to refresh the food and water morning and night. Mackerel (way cheaper at Dollar Store) but you can find small ones at grocery store. If you can’t find it, get cans of tuna. Get a spray bottle and put the juice in it, add water, and go down three house in each direction. Spray a path from each direction to the feeding station. From the property line on each side and front and back. Spray along bushes or fence or house foundation, as cats don’t like to be out in the open. Put his bed or blanket outside where he got out. Put a dirty towel of your’s at the feeding station. Drag the towel with your scent along the grass to get your scent out before you lay it at the feeding station. Walk down about 10 houses in each direction, just softly saying the cats name. No yelling. Just saying the name and talking so the cat can hear your voice. Take an open can of mackerel, tuna or stinky cat food and a flashlight and look for glow of eyes. Listen for the cat to meow. You should do this as it gets dark and a few times at night. At a minimum walk your property saying the cats name a couple times throughout the night. Sit outside and talk and say the cats name. Just talking like you would if you were inside talking to your cat. The cat may not come out tonight and you may need to do it again for several nights. Most lost cats are hiding very close and come out at night. If he doesn’t show, you probably need to set a trap. Bait the trap with the strong smelling food and spray the juice around it. I know it’s a lot, but it works. Do you have a security camera? You need some sort of camera to monitor activity. He may be coming out at night and you don’t know it. Make sure you set the feeding station up so you can see the activity through the home security camera. Hang many many posters. Put them in plastic sleeves to protect them from weather. The #1 thing that brings lost pets home is the signs. All around your neighborhood. Stop signs. Big intersections. Gas stations. Grocery stores. Anywhere lots of people go. Have there been any sightings? If there have been sightings, you may need to set up a trap at the sightings.
