Check local shelter asap in person asap & every other day. They are not found over the phone. CHECK PETFINDER DAILY IN ABOUT A WEEK OR MORE AFTER MISSING DAY TO SEE IF UP FOR ADOPTION. PLEASE KEEP CKING SHELTERS IN PERSON. NOT JUST CALLING. EVEN IF CHIPPED, CHECK SHELTER ALSO. SOMEONE CHIPPED CAT WAS FOUND AT A SHELTER. CHIP DID NOT SHOW UP WHEN SCANNED.

If outdoor cat; It is best to keep cat inside for their safety. Especially black cats. They are stolen the most. CATS ARE STOLEN DAILY all over. It is dangerous for outdoor cats. If outdoors, please get cat fixed, chipped and A TAG with your PHONE NO. It is not expensive to chip. Alert local shelters and police. If not microchipped, ck shelters in person every day. Not found over phone. Even if chipped, ck shelters. Someone found their chipped cat at shelter. Put up laminated flyers around w pic of pet. Go out late night w flashlight and speak softly outside for a bit until cat feels safe to come out of hiding. Flashlight may catch the cats eyes and light them up. Set up trap w tuna, cats smell and your worn clothing. Post on “Nextdoor” (so many cat reunite on nextdoor) and for “The Love of Louie”. Cats won’t come to you, they depend on you to find them. Scroll thru this site daily. Easier to find if chipped. Someone just found theirs by sleeping outside on their porch w flashlight on their face. They had food w them also. You are the best person to get kitty back. CHECK SHELTERS OFTEN! THEY DON’T KEEP LONG. Ck craigslist daily for any FOUND cats in your area. Traps really work. Keep older cat inside. Put a live trap out by the door, in the garage and leave the garage door open about 6-8" with cat food in it. To trap cat: A rescue bought a rotisserie chicken from Kroger and shredded some with some juice and got it in the first try in a trap. They don’t go far from home because they are scared and come out at night time, when quiet. If you use a trap, monitor frequently & also put a blanket in it with your scent. Keep checking this site daily for at least a year.

Get a drone ASAP. Get drone before cat moves on. Put up large pic of cat saying lost on your front lawn. Cats won't come out of hiding until you find them or for food. They are fearful of strangers an will only come out for you. Go out late night. Call him quietly. Loud voices scare them. Take flashlight around close to your house and ask neighbor if you can ck their backyards. I found mine 3 houses down in bushes hiding. He wouldn't come out. Had to go get him out. Trap up w your worn clothing, their smell outside and flyers up around neighborhood. Please ck shelters in person every day if not chipped. They have too many cats to find yours when you call them. If cat has dog brother, take your dog for walk and he may find missing cat. Someone just found their cat by sitting outside for awhile talking and cat came out of hiding. Neighbors don't like outdoor cats in their yards and will take them and dump somewhere.

The most direct way to communicate with neighbors is to go door to door, letting them know your cat is missing. not everyone is on social media and won’t see your post. leave flyers or notes with your contact info letting neighbors know about Kitty.ask neighbors to check their garage and other buildings on their property. Hopefully your neighbor found him and keeping safe, but doesn’t know where your cat lives.

Walk around calling your cat as you always do. Look under bushes and in hiding places. Look at dawn and dusk with a flashlight to catch the glare of your cat's eyes. Leave garage door and lanai partially open if possible. Your cat will try to get back inside ..most likely at night. Use a trap...The only way to find his way home.or to the trap is by smell. Use some of your used clothes, put them outside and around the trap. A friend of mine used her shirt and dragged it through the neighborhood. Her cat found the smell and followed it home. It is all about the smell. You can also cut a shirt of yours into small small pieces and leave a scent trail back to the trap. I read a few days ago that a lady put out a trace with the old litter throughout the neighborhood. It worked. Her cat came home! Use the litter to lead your cat to the trap. Also try to distribute flyers throughout that neighborhood...as many as you can ( 3 miles radius at least). Check shelters in person...don't just call. Put battery operated trail cameras outside. Your cat might show up in the middle of the night. When you know the time you can wait for for your cat and slow blink to make contact. NEVER GIVE UP! I read once that you can put a chair outside and cover it up with a blanket and the cat can jump up and hide under the blanket and feels safe. They said you should put one of your shirts under the blanket and food and water next to the chair. It might be worth a try to put up a chair

All the above advice + Make sure you go to the shelters, animal control, humane societies & every rescue you can think of in person and check for your dog or cat as often as you can. Don’t rely on just calling to check for them. The shelters are understaffed and overwhelmed; they may not recognize your dog or cat from a description over the phone. Also, put up flers & post on Love of ouie, Pawboost next door, Ring App, etc., etc
