Please make sure they scan the whole body as chips can move.
Also, post on Pawboost .com, nextdoor .com and Lost and Found Pets of (the county you're in) County on Facebook. Send an email to the local Humane Society and local shelters too so they know if someone calls. Also, petco lost and found.
Please get photos and vet info to verify ownership. I take a photo of their license too.. any owner wouldn't mind that.
