I noticed that there are a lot of cats missing lately. If there's an area near you that has mice, start there. Mice are active right now. Cats usually don't go very far. Have neighbors check sheds, garages, anyplace small that they can crawl into. The best times to look are from dusk to dawn. Believe it or not. Putting an empty cardboard box out where you saw him/her go might lure him/her out. If your cat's into boxes anyway. Not the cat box. An empty box. Some of this info might help. Go to shelters in person. Our neighbors witnessed my pet being picked up by them here. Five days, they told us he wasn't there. We found him in their clinic. Check there, too. They might try to say no. Be insistant. If your pet is missing, you should also check re-homing and for sale pages, including Marketplace and local newspapers, rescues, and Craigs-list. Many times, people get the gender of the pet wrong. Please always check in person. If chipped, then contact your chip company. Make sure the information is current and report the pet missing. If you decide to use Paw boost, check your emails daily, especially if your pet is lost for a long time. And please add a phone number. Pets have been found and not able to return home because all that is found of old posts is Paw boost with no information and emails are being ignored. 😥 One of the most important things you can do is file missing reports with police, Humane Society, Shelters, and your chip company. Without a police report, your pet could end up legally adopted out to someone else. Do that immediately. Please click the three dots upper right and edit to add the closest cross streets, city, state, and date of disappearance if that information isn't already there. It can be shared to Truckers, traveling through there. The city and state especially are very important for those of us who do Google and FB searches for pets. If the owner walks around too far, then their scent can confuse the pet. It's best for the owner to stay close to one area and have others walk a larger area. Favorite squeaky toy might help, but use it sparingly. It might also attract other dogs, so be careful. 💝🌹👍 Please do not leave food and a cat box outside. It can attract other cats and predators that block your pet from coming home. If you do put food out, make certain you are close by, and bring it in at night. Cat boxes have been known to attract every stray in the area, including dogs. It is also a good idea to speak to people in the neighborhood who feed strays. Your cat may be among them and possibly be inside the house. No, I'm not suggesting theft. It's possible that it it was having problems with the actual strays and brought inside to keep it away from the others. Owners look for their pets at local Shelters and Humane Society if you haven't already. Please call them to let them know you have the pet. Also, pet shops, groomers, and vets might recognize them. So might the mail carrier. You should contact them as well. Fliers could help and so could knocking on doors. A vet will scan for chip for free. If you see your pet, don't chase her/him. then sit down quietly, don't look at him, just watch him with corner of your eyes. Make sure to bring a box/bag of treats and a can of wet food. Sit down on the ground. Open the wet food when he/she's within hearing distance and lay it down in front of you on the ground. Favorite toy. Bring it. Make sure he sees it, but if it squeaks, don't squeak it often. Once or twice, then lay it down in front of you. Just to grab attention so they see you. Smelly food like a rotisserie chicken might work better, and YouTube has videos of the sound of a food can opening. You can use that instead. Don't make any suddenly moves. It might scare him. Check Craigs-list. The Ring app is really good, too! 👍 A quick way to check groups is to click on the pictures link on the homepage. It can save time. 😁👍 Do not answer messages offering a code. Sorry to hear your cat is missing. Your cat is nearby probably on your property scared and hiding. Put out worn clothing. Clothing has to be worn so that kitty can pick up on the scent. Also put out kitty’s cat bed or a blanket anything with the cat’s scent outside. Leave a window and a door slightly open so that kitty can find its way back inside the house. Be sure to secure other pets first. Go out at Dawn and Dusk approximately 2 am to 5 am especially with a flashlight. The light from the flashlight will reflect in the cat’s eyes. Check underneath bushes, trees, cars, decks, patio furniture and tarps. Anything your cat will use as shelter and a place to hide. Check sheds, garages etc. Kitty’s venture off not to far away from home. Search your property extensively. Most cats are found hiding on owners property. Be sure to search properties at a radius of 10 homes to the right, 10 to the left, 10 behind and 10 in front. Go door to door and let your neighbours know your cat is missing. Ask for their permission to search their properties. Look at every nook and cranny. Neighbours will not thoroughly search their properties or know where to look. It is best if you search the properties yourself. Shake a bag of your cat’s favourite treats or food calling kitty’s name calmly. Important thing is to remain calm. If you find your cat, make no sudden movements. Your cat is scared and in survival mode. Approach your cat slowly and calmly. Extend your hand out so that your cat can smell your hand. You need to gain your cats trust again. Give your cat treats. When you think you can grab your cat confidently do so and hang on tightly to it. Remember your cat is scared and in survival mode and will be scared of you as well. Remain calm. Be sure to create flyers with as much information possible and hand out to your neighbours as well as post flyers in the neighbourhood and the surrounding areas. Remember 10 to the left 10 to the right, 10 to the front and 10 to the back. If you can offer a reward it will encourage others to look for your kitty. Do don’t leave the litter box outside it will attract stray cats, raccoons etc. It will scare your cat away. If your cat is microchipped call the company and report the cat missing. Make sure your contact information is up to date. Report your cat missing to your local SPCA or Human Society. Bring flyers as well to post. Go in person to your local SPCA /Humane Society every couple of days and check out what cats that were recently brought in. Contact rescue groups or agencies and report your cat is missing. Bring them flyers. Go in person and check what cats have been brought it. Report your cat missing on local Facebook animals group and neighborhood watch Facebook pages. Check Kijiji as well. Follow these tips. Don’t waste any time waiting for your cat to come home. Start your search immediately. Just keep going out looking for your cat everyday . Recheck your property, your neighbours and surrounding areas as mentioned as many times as necessary. Check in with the SPCA/Humane Society and rescue groups every couple of days. Don’t give up. It can take days, weeks or months to find your cat. Good luck finding for your cat.

Here are a few things you can try. Cats usually don’t go far. They just hide well. Cats are very active at dusk and dawn. So first of all you can go out and call for him. You can put his food/water, and lots of cat nip outside your house to help draw him back. Also, put your cat's bedding that has your cat's scent on it outside to attract your cat back to your home. Also putting your own unwashed clothes or bedding out . Cats run on scent and this is highly effective in luring your cat back home .PetMD backs this up, can help lure the cat back home, as it's a comfortable and familiar smell. Shake the treat/food container outside. Check garages, especially under porches and decks,dense bushes, etc. Get one of those strong flashlights they will catch a cat's reflective eyes two blocks away and save you tons of time!!! Do not leave the food out overnight as it will attract other animals that can scare the kitty away. Go to your neighbors and let them know your kitty got out and give them your contact info. Walk your neighborhood and talk to people as you can. Take a flyer TO your local vets office and shelter a face is better than a thousand words of description and check every couple of days in person if possible Sometimes it can take weeks or months to find your kitty. Also post with Pawboost and Sam the Parrot about your missing cat. Many times cats are found within a couple hundred feet of their homes. Post fliers around your neighborhood with your phone number that people can call day or night. And talk to your mail carrier. They see lots of animals. If they see a strange kitty around, they may recognize it as yours. Make sure you call local animal shelters, etc Best time to look is between 1-6AM Get a humane trap ASAP! This it's the best chance at retrieving your cat. Line it with newspaper. The ONLY food you leave out should be in that trap. Do not leave the trap set for long periods of time unattended, especially overnight. The most importantly do not give up hope! Open your garage door a little. Don’t put the litter box out. 🙏🏻Also take a flashlight out at night and look in and under things to see if you can see the kitty’s eyes.
