Have neighbors check garages and sheds. Have a tree out back? Check that too. Leave your garage door up a little so they can return home to a familiar place. Place a box outside with blankets or even the clothes you wore today so a cat can pick up the scent and make it home. If you are new to this area, have friends keep an eye out at your former home. And please: CHECK THE LOCAL SHELTERS DAILY I hope your kitty makes it back home safe very soon. Please make sure to get your cat chipped once they return, and PLEASE keep them indoors! PLEASE NEVER LOSE HOPE! LOOK UP! Cats are great climbers and looking for them on the ground only is limiting your search. Male wanderers tend to stay within a territory of about 150 acres, while females stay closer to home, roaming only about 40 acres. This means that your average male cat is likely to stay within 1500 feet of home, while your average female tends not to go much farther than 75 yards from your door. Be careful of the lost pet finders. So sorry that your cat is missing. Please walk the neighborhood as often as possible shaking treats / food and calling your cat’s name. Enlist as many family members as can to do it, including early in the morning and at night in when it is more quiet. Use a flashlight at night so can search in bushes and under cars, anywhere a scared cat may hide. Talk to as many neighbors as can, showing your cat’s picture and if they have sheds or garages or raised houses, ask them if you can check in there or have them check. Ask any neighbors who have outside cameras to check footage as well in case your cat is on it. Find out who feeds outdoor cats in your area and ask them to be on the lookout for your cat since your cat may be looking for food. Also post flyers with your cat’s picture on it several blocks out in all directions and if can, deliver flyers door to door as well. Many people are not on social media so talking to them and posting flyers is super important. If close to businesses, go there as well. And don’t forget to check with the animal shelters in case someone brought your cat there. Praying your cat comes home safely soon.
