Jack's Owner Says

Thank you. A friend contacted the shelter and found he was there. Will be able to pick him up in the morning. I don't have Facebook so, while I was able to originally post he was lost, I couldn't reply. Thank you for everyone's concern and efforts.

🐶 Expert Guide: Finding a Lost Dog When a dog breaks loose or wanders off, fear can trick their brains into a primal "survival mode". They will bolt if chased, cornered, or yelled at—even by people they love. Use these canine behavior strategies to recover them safely: * 🛑 DO NOT CHASE OR CALL: If you spot your dog, do not run toward them, clap, or shout their name loudly. This mimics predatory behavior and triggers a flight reflex. Instead, sit or lie down on the ground, look away to avoid direct eye contact, and talk quietly in a calm, singing tone to sound non-threatening. * 🥓 The Aromatic Food Lure: Fake an active eating scene. Crinkle a potato chip bag loudly, pretend to eat, and drop highly aromatic treats like warm pieces of cooked roast, hot dogs, or smelly canned meat on the ground to lure them in close. * 🥩 Scent Stations: Set up a comfortable "safe zone" right where they were last seen or at your doorstep. Place a crate, their favorite dog bed, or unwashed clothes carrying your scent outside alongside strong-scented wet food to anchor them to the area. * 🚷 Keep the Area Quiet: Avoid launching a giant, noisy search party of neighbors walking through the woods. Heavy foot traffic will panic a hiding dog and drive them further away. Keep the search localized, quiet, and targeted. * 📣 Giant Neon Posters: Create large, neon-colored poster boards with giant block lettering ("LOST DOG" and your phone number). Post them at major intersections nearby. Intersections capture the attention of driving commuters, who are the #1 source for sightings. Dogs are incredibly resilient and have amazing tracking instincts. Stay calm, be patient, and never give up! 🙏
