I had one of my indoor kitties get out a few nights ago. He hasn’t escaped for months. Then yesterday a different one went out the front. But I hunted them down. My neighborhood has coyotes and bobcats and lots of speeders. I think maybe something about the weather has affected them. I don’t want mine outside. But since the few days ago when the first one got out he keeps trying now. I’m sorry your Rusty is late getting home. That definitely causes worry. I have some tips that might help. First I think you should make flyers with his picture and your number and take to all neighbors front doors so they know you are looking. They will bring the flyer in and have your number handy if they see him. Then walk your neighborhood looking for him. Carry an open can of catfood or tuna he might smell. Call his name. He may have found something interesting a few houses down. I’m assuming he is neutered. Then you can open your garage door just enough for him to go under. Put food, water and some unwashed clothing in there for familiar scent. In case he comes home late at night he’ll have a place to go. When you get him back I think you should try to permanently ground him. So you don’t have to go through this worry again.
