If you go visit the cats, please be mindful that they have security and it’s private property. The security officer was very understanding and mentioned they’ve been here for quite some time. The orange cat would not come out when I called him, but looked so similar to my DC. Apparently members of the community feed them regularly.

(It wasn’t my cat, but thank you to everyone who is looking out for him and continues to help these angels.) I’m on my way to see if this is our cat DC. We’ve been looking for him since September 1st 🥺

Caroline Smith , Thanks for explaining. I have been doing TNR for about 20 years before it was offered through Austin Humane Society. I paid for the neuters myself. Dr Henry Meyer , now retired, only charged me $56 for females and $40 for males. Some of the ferrals know me after many years of feeding I can pet a few, I wish I could take them all home because I LOVE them. I do the best I can by making sure they have good wet and dry food and water each day. Thanks again for speaking up. Edna

Caroline Smith thank you for explaining. I have been doing this for about 15 years , I even paid for the neuters myself before the Humane Society had a program. I spend about $150 weekly on wet and dry food for my colonies, it's rough sometimes but it's what I do. I leave my house at 5;30 each morning to feed and get back around 7:30, but I LOVE these kitties .

That's what upsets me about cats returned to trapping areas is they will no longer be fed unless trapper wants to. The concern, though a good one is to help stop future litters , but what about the fixed cat and the rest of his/her life. Especially when males stop producing testosterone (3weeks) do they still hunt ? No ? Or slow ?I'm just saying. I feed every other night and do my part but usually bring cats home after surgery. Currently have eight , and sometimes as many as twelve. I do have a two pet doors since it's too many to have indoors at all times. I know the risks and the rate from cars and coyotes has been five out of forty over 25 years. Average life is 10 years after surgery. It has allowed the life average jump from three to ten years and they are all able to be handled and mostly get along with others.

Community Cats through Austin Humane Society and Austin Animal Services have a trap, neuter, return program the shelter is severely strained and, unfortunately, cannot spare the space or time to try to tame feral cats cats with a clipped left ear have been fixed and given rabies inj if anyone is interested in helping, you can become an official volunteer there are managed cat colonies all over austin/tc that need feeders/colony managers we’d love to have more vollies we’re always short handed 😻

Yvonne Villegas I take care of about 38 feral cats daily , I trap, neuter and release back and feed. I wish I could take them all home . You obviously are not familiar with this program through the Austin Humane Society, I am a volunteer, .Please check it out and do not remove these cats. Thanks
