🤙📞🤙📞 CALL YOUR LOCAL (and somewhat local) BIRD WATCHERS CLUBS DAILY. 🤙📞🤙📞They usually report all sightings for their database, even non-native species. Locating the bird is the first step in recapture. It is worth noting that wild birds (Crows, Jays…) are highly territorial, if they find your escaped parrot, they will often congregate and aggressively call out. Listening for noisy wild birds can help locate your parrot. Genevieve DeBromont (experienced rescuer with Perroquet Secours) says… « Oftentimes, a parrot who takes off will tentatively try to return, by making a circular flight. Or it will try to come back after a first flight. Generally, a parrot will be really close to the house on the first day after fleeing. It is therefore crucial to start the search from the fleeing point, in a methodical circular fashion, expanding the diameter as we go. Usually, the bird will be within a 1km radius (often 100 to 200 feet max.). We tend to search in the direction the bird initially flew. » Here’s stories of hope… Don’t despair! What you seek also seeks you… I have seen an Alexandrine survive several months on her own, down to -5 Fahrenheit temps (-21 celsius), she was recaptured after 4 months. She hung out with crows! Some birds get chased and are found 30 miles away (50 km) from where the escape occurred. If your bird is an agile flyer, there is more hope for recapture (or that someone has your bird). A woman was recently reunited with her Grey after 7 long years following him getting stolen. She would go to her local rescue to see every new bird admitted, eventually, it was her guy! Don’t ever give up hope, don’t stop looking, your bird will try and survive. I hope with all my heart that this miracle happens for you. Treat yourself with extra care in these trying times. Here are some ideas to assist in your search. *Create a post on Pawboost, NextDoor & Ring, if you haven’t already. *During the daytime: use a wireless Bluetooth speaker to broadcast flock calls or your voice, shake treat bags or anything that might attract attention to food, put the cage out where it can be seen. *During the evening when searching is over, design & print off flyers with photo & contact information. These can be encased in a ziplock to keep weatherproof & posted in areas where allowed like parks, poles & any nearby gathering areas. Also drop off some at vet clinics, pet supply stores, anything within a 5 mile radius. Contact local shelters/rescues & even the police dept - they do pick up found/stray pets all the time. Make sure the world knows - neighbors esp ones that have bird feeders/baths/pools. Hand them out while searching the area. Join every local social media group there is. Run an ad in your local newspaper - some run one for free in lost & found (or cheap). Also check with local bird watcher groups - they’re always out & about. Flyers cannot be placed in mailboxes. *PLEASE CHECK WITH LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS & FILE A MISSING PET REPORT*
