Message from Owner

My Mother’s cat went missing September 4th after darting out the back door. She is very skiddish so will run away if approached. She was an outdoor cat before adoption. 10 years old

If this is an indoor only cat that never goes out, look close. Indoor only cats when lost get scared and hide because it is unknown territory and usually do not come out when you call. Usually are within 3 or 4 houses . Put out something with your scent such as a piece of clothing or blanket. Call at dusk, dawn and night and shake the treats. Get in your neighbour's yards and look under decks, sheds, in trees, bushes, in garages, under vehicles and hood or anywhere they can hide. Put up lots of posters. If you are searching at night, use a flashlight as their eyes glow in the dark. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=388310901737884

Shared. NOTE that TWO DAYS is a long time to a cat, this is MUCH longer. If you have not yet done ALL these things, do them now. If you have, do them again and go further in your search. Notify Brampton Animal Services and check their website for found cats. Carefully check around your home and property, focusing on small, hidden spots like closets, dresser drawers and hidden nooks and crannies in garages, sheds, basement etc. IF she's an unspayed female in heat, she may have been chased by intact males and have trouble finding her way back home. If she was injured she may be hiding. Search all nearby shrubs, bushes and trees, window wells, garages and sheds. Ask nearby neighbours to do the same. Alert local vet offices, rescues and shelters. Alert local feral cat feeders who may spot her searching for food. See Pawboost for more ways to find and sample posters. Put a notice in nearby neighbours mailboxes, post on local notices boards, in community centres, churches and schools. Go out after dark bring food and treats, search a 5+ block radius, stop periodically and softly call but do not make any loud noises or sudden moves. Lost cats are terrified and do not recognize their owner as safe.

Maybe they could try putting flyers in the doors of the houses on the street around them asking people to keep an eye out. It draws their attention to the fact that she’s missing and not just an outdoor cat walking around. They can call or text you with updates of sightings. . It worked twice for us over the years and many others have commented that it’s how they found their cat. Hope your kitty is home soon ! 😊 I’ve also seen people comment to put their blanket or an article of worn clothing outside the door they left from so they can follow the scent back home.
