Just wanted to comment. I was the friend “looking after” this dog. The owner registered on the micro chip rehomed the dogs to us. We were not looking after that dog. There was another dog that was rehomed to us by the same people who was quite literally malnourished when we got him.

Aura's have a duty of care to the animals that find themselves in their care and they will have processes they have to follow and checks that need to be made before they can even consider handing animals back where things like this have happened. If the microchip and veterinary records are up to date it sounds like your beef should be with the person who surrendered your dog.
