‼️UPDATE: As of 07.00PM Alfie is still missing. He hasn’t been seen today. ‼️UPDATE: As of 08.40AM Alfie is still missing. He was last sighted running on Cheddar road towards the Broadway in Reservoir at 6.20PM on 6/10 People who sight him: 🐾 1. Don’t chase or call out loudly Even if you mean well, most scared dogs interpret chasing, clapping, or calling as a threat — they’ll bolt. 👉 Instead: • Stay low to the ground (sideways, not head-on). • Avoid direct eye contact. • Speak softly or even yawn/stretch — it makes you look calm and non-threatening. ⸻ 🍗 2. Use food and scent Tempt them with high-value smells like: • Rotisserie chicken, sardines, or smelly dog treats • Tuna or warm sausages (if you have them handy) Put the food down, back away, and let the dog approach at their pace. If possible, make a scent trail by tearing small bits of food leading to a safe spot (like your car, a fenced yard, or a crate). ⸻ 🧥 3. Lure, don’t grab If the dog starts sniffing near you: • Sit or crouch with your side facing them. • Toss small bits of food closer and closer to you. • Let them sniff your hand only if they choose to. • If they allow touch, gently loop a leash or slip lead under their head — never over. If they’re wearing a collar, you can clip the leash once they’re calm. ⸻ 🚗 4. Use confinement to your advantage If they’re near an open gate, garage, or car, you can: • Toss food inside • Walk away slightly • Wait for them to wander in Then quietly close the door or gate once they’re fully inside. ⸻ 📱 5. Get help If they’re too scared or keep running: • Call your local council, animal control, or the lost dogs Facebook groups for your area. • Leave out food, water, and familiar scents (like a blanket or shirt) where they’ve been seen — lost dogs often return to the same spot. • Post photos and the exact location right away in community groups.
