If he is indoor only or new to a place he is hiding nearby. Put out familiar scents like owners dirty laundry, bedding or toys. Look with a flashlight even during the day under bushes, porches, decks and cars. Look in garages and sheds and up in trees too. Cats are territorial and do not run away. When outside their territory they hunker down and hide in the nearest hiding places. Look under houses and in crawlspaces too. Put fliers in a square block on neighbors porches asking neighbors to check their property thoroughly. Check security cameras too. File a lost report with the shelter, put fliers at nearby vet offices, and post on Nextdoor too. Do not leave food out unattended , you do not want to attract other animals. Try shaking his treats and calling his name several times a day also you could try leaving a door open with food inside and hide and see if he will run in on his own. Your cat is on defense mode so he will probably not respond to your calls but giving him an opportunity to run in on his own is a good option. If he continues to hide set a humane trap in the early morning or early evening hours where he escaped . Cover it with a blanket and line the bottom with newspaper. Put his favorite food in it. Hide nearby or set it where you can monitor it from a distance or under security camera . Do that until caught. You will find him, just don’t stop looking everywhere, spreading the word, and setting a trap if all else fails.

My personal experience has been first securing other cats in another closed-off room, dimming/turning off most or all inside/outside lights and — if safe to do so and should be supervised — leaving doors (especially door/window escaped through) open/ajar in the very early morning (basically, need to camp out in room where door is ajar). (Cats have a keen wide-ranging/radius sense of smell; therefore, it is so important to get their familiar “home” scents into the airwaves.) Every time, my little escape artist has come bolting through the door between 3:00 — 5:00 AM. (NOTE: When he’s escaped and door is closed, he panics and takes off again — it is important they have a way in once they come out of hiding and make a mad dash for home.) Hopefully, if not used to being outdoors, TIGER is very close by just scared to come out until it’s really dark and really quiet. Prayers for a quick safe return !!🙏🏻

I see lots of coyotes where I live. I am glad when a pet is found and home safe.
