Message from Owner

Please, I was traveling through town and stopped at the McDonald’s to get your rest and something to eat, and Milo must have let a window down as I was resting and jumped out chasing the stray cats around the area here he is an indoor cat. He does not know how to be outside. He’s super fluffy not meant for the outdoor weather here super friendly please I’ve had them since he was a baby. I’ve never been separated from him I’m offering a cash reward of $100 for a safe return no questions asked please help me find Milo. I’m staying at the Soho Inn and suites right next to where he was last seen so that way I can be close to him in case he comes back. I’m trying to stay here as long as I can, but I’m not from Kissimmee so please help me find my baby.

UPDATE: Still here in Kissimmee, which as I said isn’t my hometown and now my mom who was with me during all this isn’t here anymore, she had to go back to Tampa and I just could not leave without Milo. So I’m doing everything you all have suggested, which I’m very grateful for all the advice as I’ve never been thru this before and honestly would never want to have this happen to anyone or myself ever. The night clerk of the hotel I stayed at that shared a parking lot with the one Milo got lost at said he has seen him a few times on the opposite side of where I had been searching in the early morning hours like3 to 5am but no luck for me and now since the manager at the original location had me trespassed for posting signs on the property and asking guests in passing if they’d have seen him which apparently he said created a disturbance but really I think it’s because I told him his early check in fee of $30 is considering I had never checked out, just paid the lower rate online instead of his in person rate which was much higher was the actual cause of his anger with me and well regardless now I’m further away and am at a loss of what to do. I can’t leave without him but idk what to do. Paying for things here is not cheap and having my home in Tampa is cheap and together it’s a lot to handle but I know Milo’s somewhere here and that makes it impossible to leave… fml.

I'm sorry your gorgeous longhair, fluffy classic brown tabby and white cat (Maine Coon | Forest Cat) is lost in uncharted territory. I know this is upsetting, and you now understand a frightened cat such as Milo will not come when called, but I have a strategy that may help you get him back. First of all, keep in mind that Milo's instinct will instruct him to run from you, so you must search without dislodging him from his hiding spot. Focus your efforts close to where he was last seen and TIPTOE around in the daylight using a flashlight, but be quiet and discreet so as not to frighten him, (shhh! DO NOT CALL or shake treats) check every crack and crevice, look in, under and around sheds, vehicles, furniture, under foundations (if applicable), under shrubs and into trees etc. but suspend searching when it gets dark to give him the chance to emerge voluntarily. Note: if you do find Milo's hiding spot, do not approach if he appears to back away. If he is not amenable, you back up -- it's better to leave him where he is than to encourage him to run farther away. If you do get hold of him, do not let go under any circumstances. Hold his scruff to calm him and lower him into a carrier set on end. If you don't find his hiding spot, keep in mind within the first couple of days before his survival instinct kicks into full gear, Milo may come to you at dinnertime, so at dusk lay a familiar blanket in a discreet location near where he was last visualized. Sit low to the ground and open some tempting food. Call him softly (don't let him know you're panicked) and give him some quiet time to emerge. If he approaches, do not make any moves that may scare him away. When Milo is close enough you'll grab him by the scruff -- you can't equivocate -- once you do this you must hold on no matter if you're mauled. Holding him by the scruff should calm him, so if you have a carrier standing by you can set it on end and lower him into it. If he doesn't show himself and you cannot wait any longer, leave something familiar (such as worn socks or teeshirt, an old shoe, etc.) to which he may gravitate in a few safe places (under shrubs, for example) along with some nourishing food. As long as Milo eats there he should stay put, providing additional chances to snag him. Therefore, if you cannot get him to emerge and approach, your objective will be to identify a feeding location so he stays there and you can eventually trap him. Please let me know how it goes.

Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Mainly their litter box and sprinkle their used litter around the yard as they'll recognize the smell and it'll deter other animals from coming around. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one and to check their cameras in case they appeared on them to get a sense of direction they could be. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.

Escaped cats often hide close to home but may be too scared to come when called. Be sure to check all possible hiding spots around the outside of your home. If you go out after dark, you can use a flashlight to check for kitty eyeshine. Also, post on Nextdoor. Good luck! 🍀

The only way a lost cat can find its way home is with its nose. They have to use their sense of smell to get home again. Put anything outside that smells like their territory. Put the pajamas you slept in outside because you probably sweated in them. Put out their food your stinky socks your smelly sneakers anything you can think of that the cat will recognize by smell. Cats usually stay within a five house radius of their own home for up to a week or so sleeping in the bushes during the day and coming out at dusk and dawn. Those are good times to take a walk shaking the treat bag calling out but cats also tend to come out and walk around very late at night. Try to keep a door cracked if you can whether it's the garage or whatever or a window cracked so you can hear them if they call out for you. Put this on all of the neighborhood pages as well as lost and found pets sites. Knock on the neighbors doors and make sure they know you're looking for your cat. Good luck PS cats can smell up to one mile away from their own house. Absolutely no litterbox outside or food. It attracts predators is why. Never give up.
