🐾❤️ PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP HOPE! ❤️🐾 Since your beloved cat is missing, please know that you are not alone. The fear, worry, and heartbreak of not knowing where your furry family member is can be overwhelming. 💔 🐱 SEARCH CLOSE TO HOME! Frightened cats often hide nearby under decks, porches, bushes, cars, sheds, and in garages or crawl spaces. Check even the smallest hiding places! 🔦 SEARCH WHEN IT’S QUIET! Late at night and early in the morning can be good times to look. Bring a flashlight, call your cat gently, and stop often to listen. A scared cat may not answer, even when it hears your voice. 🏡 ASK YOUR NEIGHBORS FOR HELP! Ask them to check garages, sheds, basements, and other places where your cat could accidentally become trapped. Check doorbell cameras for possible sightings, too. 👕 USE FAMILIAR SCENTS! Try placing your cat’s bedding or an item of your unwashed clothing in a sheltered spot near your home. ❤️ KEEP LOOKING AND KEEP SHARING! Ask for help, follow up on sightings, and continue checking with local shelters. Don’t assume the worst simply because your cat hasn’t returned yet. 🐾❤️ NEVER STOP CARING. NEVER STOP SEARCHING. NEVER GIVE UP HOPE. ❤️🐾 #MissingCat #LostCats #HelpBringThemHome #LostAndFoundPets #MissingPets #CatsAreFamily #NeverGiveUpHope

Lost cat posters will not always help find your cat if it has crawled under your neighbor’s deck and is injured and silent. Large, neon lost cat posters should be used, and social media posts (especially for area-based social networks like Next Door), however, social media posts and neon posters should be a supplement to a targeted search in the immediate area of where the cat disappeared. Most often this involves an aggressive, physical search of a cat’s territory. And yes, that means looking under and in every conceivable hiding place in your yard and in your neighbors’ yards ! When cats are displaced into an unfamiliar area, the cat is most likely hiding in silence, often not far from the escape point, and they will not meow! This is because cats are territorial and their primary protective measure from predators is to hide in silence. Cats that are afraid (and cats that are injured) will seek areas of concealment such as under a deck, under a house, under a porch, or in heavy brush and they will not meow! Meowing would give up their location to a predator. Their behavior has nothing to do with whether the cat loves you, whether it recognizes your voice, or whether it can smell you–it has everything to do with the fact that a frightened cat will hide in silence ! • ❌️👉 1,232 cat owners who’d lost a cat took part in a study. • 🌟 The number one method that was the most successful in recovering a missing cat was conducting a physical search of the area. ( DON'T TRUST your NEIGHBORS to check under their decks and inside their sheds and garages. ) • ➡️. The median distance found (how far the cats traveled) for missing outdoor-access cats was 315 meters (344 yards). This is roughly a 17-house radius from their owner’s home. • ➡️. The median distance found (how far the cats traveled) for displaced / escaped indoor-only cats was much less—it was only 50 meters (54 yards) which is roughly a 2 ½ house radius from their owner’s home.

Sherry Smith-Bowen Hi Sherry. Yes, I have checked shelters all the way to Maryland. I emailed shelters, vets, animal hospitals, and groomers. I have stopped by all local shelters and animal hospitals in person to hand out flyers. Good advice to share with others. I am hearing all sorts of interesting stories about how far kitties can travel before they make it home. Thanks for taking the time to reply, and I am so glad your kitty made its way home to you.

Have you checked the shelters that are further away from you? My cat was gone for 6 weeks and he ended up in the Arlington shelter, I live in Kingstowne. Sometimes people will find animals while they're out, on their way to work and will take them to the nearest shelter. Sending prayers that your kitty will have a safe return. 💜🙏
