Thank you for keeping this pet safe and ensuring that anyone who claims to be the owner IS in fact the rightful owner. Be careful…. The owner will be able to tell YOU the dog’s name, gender, color of collar and any identifying marks / characteristics. You shouldn’t post any of the above info about the pet you found online. And don’t share it with the possible owner. Let the owner of a missing pet give you the info about their pet. See if the dog responds to the name the person gives you. The owner will also have vet records to share. Getting pet scanned for microchip is free many places, such as your vet’s office, petco, petsmart, animal shelter and many fire stations. Also please contact the local animal shelter and report this pet as found. Pet’s family should call there or go there looking for their fur baby. You can foster the pet at your home, the pet doesn’t have to stay at the shelter but they should know you found him/her. The shelter can also scan for a microchip.
