Prayers for 🦆 Can you leave a door cracked open? Cats tend to come back when it is dark and quiet. Put scent articles of yours outside. Do not put food or litter box outside it can attract predators and you want him hungry. Do not call him indoor cats will usually think they are in trouble. Instead go outside sit down and listen and talk softly to yourself. Ask neighbors to check all out buildings. Take a flashlight and look for his eyes under bushes, cars, and up in trees. Indoor cats will usually hunker down and stay put until they feel safe which can be several days. He is probably very close by hiding it is your job to draw him out. Borrow a humane trap asap and bait it with chopped sardines or KFC chicken. You can cover it with black trash bags and then put the scent articles inside. You can get a cheap trail cam or security cam. Beware of anyone asking for codes or money claiming to have him. Also if someone mentions Instagram or Facebook and drones it is a scam. Put up large neon colored signs with his pic on them. If he is chipped contact chip company and report as lost. If not check shelters in person. This has worked for me contain other pets and step outside. Open his canned food and shake treats. Then place food inside across the room from the cracked open door. I was just in contact with a woman who got her indoor-only cat back by hanging out in the garage at night and casually talking with her partner. The garage door was open about 5 inches to let the cat inside and it wandered in on its own. They also opened the door leading from the garage into the house. This is the perfect play-it-cool technique that indoor cats responds really well to. Oftentimes, because they're in survival mode, they will go into fear mode and run away from us if we spot them or try to pursue them. However, if you can talk normally late at night & wait for them to come to you, it can be the best remedy!

If your cat is an indoor cat, it is most likely going to be very near the spot where it exited and in hiding. Most indoor only cats are found within 2.5 houses of the house they escaped from. Indoor only cats will be hiding out during the day and typically come out at night when it's dark and quiet as they feel more safe. The best thing to do is to talk to your neighbors during the day to see if they have seen your cat. Do not rely on social media. The best way to find your cat is on foot by talking to people during the day and looking outside very LATE at night. See if your neighbors can leave their garages and sheds open for a few hours. If your cat is inside, your cat may not come out right away once the doors are opened. This is because when cats are in survival mode, they typically do not act normal. You can also print mini flyers and attach them to your neighbors' doors if they are not home. You can use painter's tape so that it is easy for the homeowner to remove. Offer a reward even if it's a small amount. It incentivizes people & neighborhood kids to look. Post neon signs/posters. Talk to your mail carrier. Post on Nextdoor & Ring App. It alerts neighbors in a 2-3 mile radius. You do not need to own a ring camera to post on the Ring app. Please make sure that your cat has a way to get back into your house 24/7. You want to leave open a garage door (including the door that goes from the garage into the house), sliding glass door, or window that they exited from as well as some of your recently worn clothing and/or shoes outside of the entry way. Your scent will attract your cat back to you. ***Do NOT put your cat's litter box outside as it can attract predators.*** It's VERY important that you look for your cat late at night. Between 11pm to 5am are ideal times to find a missing indoor only cat. 3 AM is the best time to find a cat as this is the time they become most active and responsive. Shake a bag of their favorite treats while CALMLY talking (in a normal voice) to your cat. Make sure that you pause after calling to see if you can hear your cat meowing. Use a flashlight and look for the glow of their eyes. Check up trees as well. Your cat may not respond to you by making noise because it's going to be terrified and even making noise with you will give away it's hiding spot. Indoor only cats are very frightened outdoors and will only come out when they feel safe. You may have to trap your cat as they will be in survival mode (sometimes they start acting a bit feral) and will not act the same way that they do in the house.
