We have found Missy, we currently have her in our apartment but are unsure how to contact the owner as there isn’t a phone number listed. We will keep her safe until the owner contacts us.

Go to Animal Control Asap, in case your kitty was taken there. Sending prayers your kitty returns home.

Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Mainly their litter box and sprinkle their used litter around the yard as they'll recognize the smell and it'll deter other animals from coming around. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one and to check their cameras in case they appeared on them to get a sense of direction they could be. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.

Missy is a beautiful brown tabby and white cat with a spot on her nose pad — I’m sorry she is lost. Did Missy escape a fence, enclosure, or the home, or is she allowed to roam freely? Her familiarity with the environment will dictate how to find her. Escaped indoor cats usually hide close by but are too frightened to return or respond when called; while a cat that knows her way around may have become stuck somewhere and needs help getting home. I have recovered many lost cats and assisted others so if you tell me about Missy I can provide complete instructions that may help. Please understand an escaped cat will be fearful and hide close to home so if you search, TIPTOE SILENTLY during the DAYTIME ONLY (no calling or shaking treats) or do just the right things and she may emerge when it's dark and quiet to sneak back inside. This usually happens within the first few nights so until I hear back from you please implement this strategy if Missy got out accidentally: AT DUSK crack open your fence gate or enclosure door, if applicable, then lay a familiar blanket or worn teeshirt flat on the doorstep where she got out (don't use a litter box, bed, trap, or anything conspicuous) along with a bowl of food. Call her softly to provide a familiar sound and direction (she won't come on command) then watch from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT!) and if you see Missy approach and settle on the food be careful not to startle her. Slowly and quietly provide a clear path inside and she may put an end to the crisis herself. If you can't wait up set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time. Also, although some will suggest putting out kitty's litter box, experts say DON’T DO IT. I've never used one in all the times I've been successful recovering a lost cat. Please read this to learn more about why it's neither necessary nor recommended: https://www.facebook.com/notes/lost-cats-georgia/why-we-dont-recommend-putting-your-lost-cats-litter-box-outside/1101245526665296/

My indoor only male black cat got out once. We put out all the scents. Old blankets, our unwashed clothes, his scratch post, his empty dirty litter box, vacuum dust etc. My nextdoor neighbor would see him trying to return during the day while we were at work. Then get scared and run off into nearby woods. I started setting my alarm for 3am while it was quiet and go out calling him. Finally after 5 days I heard him crying in very thick bushes Nextdoor to our house. I saw his eyes with my flashlight. I had to literally crawl to get him. He was like afraid to move. I finally got him . They usually don’t travel far. They will hunker down close by.

Helpful Hints: Post huge fluorescent colored paper signs all around! Post on Nextdoor.com, Paw boost and all Lost and Found Sites in other boroughs and suburbs. Check all vets offices, shelters and rescues throughout. Check Craigslist Lost and Found Pets. Rehoming/Selling Pets etc. sections ! Check all bushes, alley ways, especially in the morning and evening time. Walk around waving something scented of yours and also your pets so he/she will detect it while you call out their name. Anchovies work well. Tie your shirt or something scented of yours and your pets where your pet was last seen. Search teams and scent dogs can provide help also. If you know of another dog owner their dog can be used to detect the scent of your lost pet. It's worked many times! Hope this helps!
