Very important to put up flyers in and around the area (for people not on FB). Even place them inside mailboxes. These steps must be done right away and must be done everyday 🙏 Place a bit of her soiled litter outside, not the full litter box (sheltered from the rain, so not to get it wet). But don’t leave it outside overnight. It may attract other animals. Place a blanket or a piece of clothing with her scent on it outside as well. She may be able to smell her own scent and find her way home 🤞 Put out her food and a water bowl, in the same place everyday. You want her to stay close by. But don’t leave the food out when it’s night, bring it back inside. If possible, leave an exit door or window opened so your cat can get back inside (while keeping other cats in the house safe in a closed room). You need to go out looking for her early mornings and late nights, calling her name and bring her favorite treats. She must be scared and hiding close by. But do not walk too far from your house, you do not want her to follow the sound of your voice and be that much further away from home. You want her to stay close by 🤞 Tell neighbors to look out for her, to check under and inside their sheds, garages, under balconies, etc… I would strongly suggest to ask your neighbours if you can go in their backyards and check for your cat yourself. Someone lost their cat and found her weeks later stuck inside a Cabano, not alive 😔 You should open a missing cat file with the Montreal SPCA and Proanima Montreal. Most indoor only cats and limited outdoor access cats are found within 2.5 houses of the house they escaped from. Indoor only cats will be hiding out during the day and typically come out at night when it's dark and quiet as they feel more safe. The best thing to do is to talk to your neighbors during the day to see if they have seen your cat. Do not rely on social media. The best way to find your cat is on foot by talking to people during the day and looking outside very LATE at night. See if your neighbors can leave their garages and sheds open for a few hours. Your cat may not come out right away once the doors are opened. This is because when cats are in survival mode, they typically do not act normal. You can also print mini flyers and attach them to your neighbors' doors if they are not home. You can use painter's tape so that it is easy for the homeowner to remove. Post on Nextdoor & Ring App. It alerts neighbors in a 2-3 mile radius. Please make sure that your cat has a way to get back into your house 24/7. You want to leave open a garage door (including the door that goes from the garage to the house) sliding glass door, or window that they exited from as well as some of your recently worn clothing outside of the entry way. ***Do NOT put your cat's litter box outside as it can attract predators.*** It's VERY important that you look for your cat late at night. Between 11pm to 5am are ideal times to find a missing indoor only cat. 3 AM is the best time to find a cat as this is the time they become most active and responsive. Shake a bag of their favorite treats while CALMLY talking (in a normal voice) to your cat. Make sure that you pause after calling to see if you can hear your cat meowing. Indoor only cats are very frightened outdoors and will only come out when they feel safe. You may have to trap your cat as they will be in survival mode (sometimes they start acting a bit feral) and will not act the same way that they do in the house.
