Put tuna or sardines and shoes with your scent on the porch or backyard right away also go out late at night and call quietly and shake a bag of treats. Fingers crossed. Probably close by and scared

LOST CAT TIPS Cats typically don't go very far, and are hiding, so you'll have to search for them. Get smelly food, like tuna or sardines out ASAP. Put dirty clothing (a pillowcase you've been sleeping on is best) with your scent out along with food. Check in and around your home: inside the entire house, bushes, up in trees, deck, porch etc. If their head fits their body will too! A lot of people say to put put the litter box, however there is no proof this is effective. A litter box may attract community cats and other predators, which could actually deter your cat from coming home out of fear. Door-knock ask neighbors to outbuildings, sheds, garages and their Ring and other security camera footage for sightings of him/her. Post on all social media groups, especially those specific to your subdivision; Nextdoor, and ring and ask them to check Ring and other security camera footage for sightings of her/him. Definitely post on For the Love of Louie and check periodically on their FOUND pages to see if he/she has been found by someone. Use a flashlight to look under cars, bushes and up in trees for the glow of the kitties eyes. Go out periodically through out the night (especially after midnight until dawn) shaking his/her treats or opening a can of wet food and call to him/her. Listen for any responses and watch for movement and/or eyes peering out. Renting/borrowing/buying a live trap and setting within the first 24 hours your cat has been missing is a good idea. Live traps need to be monitored frequently (a camera with a live feed is best). Be prepared to release wildlife. If you aren't able to do this, let me know and I will try to find someone to help with this. Posting flyers in your neighborhood is critical in getting your lost pet back home. If you need a flyer made, please let me know and I'll make one for you. If you have a garage, leave the door open enough for him/her to get in. If you live in a mobile home community look under yours and your neighbor's homes.

Walk around calling your cat as you always do. Look under bushes and in hiding places. Look at dawn and dusk with a flashlight to catch the glare of your cat's eyes. Leave garage door and lanai partially open if possible. Your cat will try to get back inside ..most likely at night. Use a trap...The only way to find his way home.or to the trap is by smell. Use some of your used clothes, put them outside and around the trap. A friend of mine used her shirt and dragged it through the neighborhood. Her cat found the smell and followed it home. It is all about the smell. You can also cut a shirt of yours into small small pieces and leave a scent trail back to the trap. I read a few days ago that a lady put out a trace with the old litter throughout the neighborhood. It worked. Her cat came home! Use the litter to lead your cat to the trap. Also try to distribute flyers throughout that neighborhood...as many as you can ( 3 miles radius at least). Check shelters in person...don't just call. Put battery operated trail cameras outside. Your cat might show up in the middle of the night. When you know the time you can wait for for your cat and slow blink to make contact. NEVER GIVE UP! I read once that you can put a chair outside and cover it up with a blanket and the cat can jump up and hide under the blanket and feels safe. They said you should put one of your shirts under the blanket and food and water next to the chair. It might be worth a try to put up a chair

All the above advice + Make sure you go to the shelters, animal control, humane societies & every rescue you can think of in person and check for your dog or cat as often as you can. Don’t rely on just calling to check for them. The shelters are understaffed and overwhelmed right now, they may not recognize your dog or cat from a description over the phone. And, put up flers & post on love of louie, next door, etc., etc
