Helen Owens It definitely could, which is why I always suggest putting it out in late afternoon/early evening before dark and watching for the lost kitty to come around. I wouldn't leave it out all night. When my cat was lost, he was afraid of neighborhood cats that were around, so I moved the food location from back porch to front porch, switched from dry food to canned tuna food, and watched for him. It worked!!!

So she's lost in an area she's not familiar with? This breaks my heart. I hope the petsitter is going to help, because Kiki is probably scared and hiding/seeking shelter nearby with her kitten. Starting right now and each day in late afternoon/early evening until Kiki and her baby are found, have the petsitter put canned tuna/fishy canned cat food outside her door and watch for them. The fishy food is important because they can smell it from farther away and hopefully they will come out from wherever they are hiding. Also put fresh water and something with Kiki's scent on it outside the petsitter's door. Post on Toledo and Surrounding Area Lost and Found Pet page and Sylvania/Toledo Lost and Found Pet page. Let neighbors know that they are missing so they can be on the lookout for them. Put flyers up in the nearby area. Don't give up! It's going to get really cold this coming weekend. Sending prayers for these poor kitties to be safe and found quickly.
