Take him to a vet or humane society have him or her checked for a chip. Call around to the humane societies, cat rescues. People hopefully always check with them and more than once. You should keep checking back too. Look in the local news papers ,people do pay to put lost pets ads in actual news papers, not just really old people. Look thru your community on line news pages there are often lost pets posted there. Your local areas used stuff for sale or free often have a lost and found sections on line Then there is one i just tried on a whim. I had 2 golden retrievers just show up on my front porch one with a very old ratty strap type collar, no tag, nothing written on the outside or inside of the collar, no secret pocket. I had purchased a scanner tool that reads all the types of chips in use in north and Central America The dogs didn’t have chips. These were defiantly somebody’s dogs. On a whim I called the Sheriffs nonemergency number and asked if anybody has called in reporting 2 lost golden retrievers these were definitely somebody’s dogs. Nobody would’ve dumped these guys. She said no, but she took my number if somebody called. I’ll let you know. but three or four days later, I got a call from the sheriffs department, asked me if I still had the two golden retrievers said yes, the sheriffs department and asked me if I was OK if they could give my phone number to somebody who had called them to see if anybody had come across two golden retrievers I said ok about an hour late I get call from a much older woman who asked me about the dogs I said let me take a pic they are right here. I ask what phone number do you want me to send to or email address well she started rattling off her street address as if I was going snail mail them to her. I had to say no a cell phone number of an email address. Well they didn’t have that, they have a computer their kids got them but they really don’t know how to work it. So I ask about their cell phone well they do have those,but it’s one of those old folks types that intentionally isn’t loaded with features to confuse them. I sent the pics to the cell number anyway asked if their phone just made a noise or vibrated I sent 3 more pics but their phone did nothing. I had looked up their address on a map, about 8 miles away as the crow flies. They had the same creek running thru their property that I did just about 8 miles south. In guessing the dogs were just following the creek north, got lost. So this elderly couple shows up about 1/2 hour later. Both the dogs instantly paid attention when they heard the sound their truck made coming up the hill towards my house, soon as they saw it they took off running to go greet the truck. These were defiantly their dogs. I asked if they got any of the pics I sent to their phone so I asked if I could check for them. No camera or pics icon on the screen, but there is a camera lens on the phone. There were only 3 icons on their big field in the center of the screen Weather,phone ,and maps. I dug around found messaging turned that on found their camera, and pics turned them on. There were some other things that should’ve been turned on for a person of their age. I asked him, so do you want your phone to call the police if you get into an accident and you can’t reach the phone? they didn’t even know the phone could do that so that got turned on adjusted a few settings their display was very washed out, the screen wouldn’t expand to magnify things. Then I opened the messaging and here is the three pics I sent them and a whole bunch of others. Almost 100 one of her kids had been sending her. She never knew existed. When I opened photos I was goin to show them how to move the pics that got sent to messenger over to folders in the pics where they belong buy they will stay with the messages too. Then all these pick folder thumbnails with a size no photo just the size downloading from someplace over my opened internet wireless her phone was associated with a family cloud account. She’s was kind of freakin out with all those little gray icons starting to fill the page. I opened one folder then showed them a couple pictures and asked her if she do you know one of these people. She did a lot of them were pics she hadn’t seen in like 30 years. I don’t know if her kids told her they were making archival copies of all their photos or or not I might have just ruined their big Christmas present. There were about 1000 pics that had downloaded plus around 20 3 min reals of 8mm home movie film and a couple 16mm reals of old home movie film of their family. They were very well done copies of the films no flickering the pics weren’t just layed out on the table and had a cell phone pick of them. This was either done professionally, or one of their kids had spent a lot of money on equipment then spent a lot of time leading how to use it. They couldn’t remember if one of the kids had told them they were gonna do something with the old photos to keep them forever or not. He said that’s sounded familiar from a few years ago but we never did anything about it. again I hope I just did t ruin theit Christmas present, cause it was still stuff downloading when they were leaving. I could tell they were probably gonna spend the afternoon and the rest of the night looking at those pictures. There were thousands of them. It just goes to show you those dogs may have never found their way home if I hadn’t called the sheriffs office and ask them I was about ready to take out ads and local papers. With pics of these dogs. I don’t know why their children got their parents these phones and then have them set them up so all they can do is make a phone call, but they will if you push a few more buttons their phone can call the cops if your in a car wreck click another box it can detect if you fell down the stairs. There were medical monitor apps the could do a lot but intentionally dumber down.
