Carolyn Harvey You're right ideally, every animal would have a loving home where they are spoiled, fed, and loved. No one thinks a life outside living flea infested, in the heat, in the cold, in the rain, and unwanted makes for an ideal or fun situation for those animals. However, TNR isn't discarding them, it prevents thousands of unwanted kittens from being born onto the streets to suffer those exact same conditions. The reason TNR is used isn't because people think living outside for those animals is ideal, but because rescues, shelters and sanctuaries are already at a humongous maximum capacity. Have you visited Grand Strand Humane Society? Please do, it's an eye opener. Many, many cats are living in a tiny cage for the rest of their lives. Due to the negligence of people dumping their animals, not getting them fixed, shelters have a lot more cats than they will ever adopt out. The reality is that shelters and rescues are already completely overwhelmed, and there simply aren't enough indoor homes or shelters spaces for the hundreds of community cats in this county that need homes. Yes, hundreds or even thousands. Rescues and shelters are depleted of volunteers and money is extremely limited. We don't have grants or donations coming in and no one is beating at our doors wanting to volunteer or giving us food or donations. But we do get tons of complaints. In the case of the rescue I help run, we don't even have a facility, we only have a few volunteer foster homes that do a lot for those animals without the assistance of the public and without pay. TNR is not a perfect solution, but it’s currently the most humane and effective way to reduce the feral population over time while shelters and rescues work with the limited resources they have. In the event any of those TNR cats get sick, we actually give them medical care. Sometimes, the only medical care we can give them is humane euthanasia to prevent them from further suffering but we try. You mention sanctuary. Do you know how much money or volunteers is required to run a sanctuary? Btw, there are several ways that you can help instead of throwing stones. Donate money or time to a local rescue, or even your home as a foster. Adopt, adopt, adopt a few animals. We still trying to adopt cats that we brought into foster care last year. No one is stepping up and opening their homes to them. Lastly if you'd like to see more government funding reach out to local city or county representatives and push for that change! TNR is the best solution we have between shelter limits and getting the population down humanely.

Carolyn Harvey wow......do you even know what a controlled colony is....? these cats are trapped, spay/neutered, vaccinated, fed and watered daily, and monitored daily by their caregivers......they are provided shelter......go sit in at a council meeting to get laws in your area changed.....but never bash the caregivers that are trying their best..

So. Living out in heat makes it ok if your fed sometime. These cats would love to have a home too. To not have fleas worms. Fights bites. Fear of evil around them. I know. There's no place. But we need sanctuarys not trap and disguard. Gov needs to. Use our money better
