- [ ] When you go searching always take a Torch as that will reflect the cats eyes in dark places. go searching late and early when its quiet, (dusk and dawn)shake treats, call and listen and wait , cats need time to respond, call when walking towards home - [ ] 🐾Look up Trees/roof tops, empty houses, church yards, cellars, sheds/garages - [ ] 🐾Look In hedges, bushes, bramble, ditches - [ ] 🐾A red torch should be used for hedge searching at night. They will move away from a standard torch or close their eyes - [ ] 🐾Search Under decking and under sheds garages, under floorboards , tarpaulins , behind meter box - [ ] 🐾Behind bins and under cars in case injured - [ ] 🐾Down any steep embankments, rabbit holes, ponds, drains, water butts - [ ] 🐾Gaps In between fences and buildings, - [ ] 🐾Ask people to leave sheds garages open a while to give a trapped cat time to escape as they wont just run out, they hide in fear - [ ] 🐾When searching in bushes etc,get down to cat level as its easier to see them or use walking sticks upside down for ease, using the L ....shaped handle ....for moving bushes aside to gently search - [ ] 🐾Put posters up and leaflet houses - [ ] 🐾Check any CCTV and ask neighbors to check also, see if he was picked up or got in a vehicle - [ ] 🐾Put familiar smells out, cat toys, blanket, empty hoover contents in garden, Open the windows of your house and get the house smells outside.🐾Hang your used unwashed bed sheets out, t shirts, smelly socks🐾Make sure there is a way for your cat to get back in your house, even when you are asleep, maybe wedge open the cat flap, or leave a window open🐾Asrk postman to keep a look out, let him have a leaflet, they go to most houses daily🐾Contact all vets in the area, the local council, cat rescues and microchip company to let them know and flag them up as missing

Please ignore the bits that don't apply Putting notes through the neighbours doors is good as not everyone is on social media. Ask them to open their sheds and garages for a while to allow a frightened cat time to escape. Check all gardens and water butts. Tip the contents of your vacuum cleaner outside to scent your area. Go out at night when it's quieter rattling food and listen for miaawing. Take a torch with you as the beam will reflect the cat's eyes. If no result widen your food rattling area and put posters up. If he/she's not neutered he/she will be out after a queen on heat or waiting for any available Tom. If this is so, please, for the sake of his/her health and safety do the right thing. Alert your old neighbours if you have moved as cats often try to return home. They need to be kept in for at least a month after a house move so that they realise they have a new home Post on your local Nextdoor app too www.next-door.co.uk If he's not neutered you need to widen your search to possibly 5 miles. He's at risk of catching FiV, territory fights and crossing busy roads. Unneutered females are usually pregnant when found. Ask your postman/woman to keep an eye out
