I'm sorry you're missing your pup. I know it is difficult but try and stay put and close to home. If you haven't already, quickly put any well-worn clothing of yours (preferably slept-in) outside your home and any of your dog's bedding. (A rescue tip is to cut up your current bed sheets and place them outside.) Any of these will create a scent station. Now, walk out your front door with anything that has yours and your dog's scent (blanket, towel, bedding) and head down the street carrying said item in each direc edtion and back home. Remember, don't go too far, you don't want your dog to follow your scent too far from home. Doing this will create a scent trail. Dogs have a strong scent radius (some up to 11 miles) and all dogs will use their noses to try to navigate home. It is best for your dog to have access into your home at all times. That can be an open door or garage. If garage, make sure the door to the inside is also open. Dogs may try to return at any point throughout the day and night. If your lost pet is around and hungry, the smell of food will draw them close. Please place a food station close to your scent station. Use smelly food for your food station, rotisserie chicken, vienna sausages, canned cat food, hot dogs... the smellier the better. To enhance the smell of non smelly food you can top with liquid smoke. Shredded beef from a local Mexican restaurant is a favorite go-to. You can also make your home appealing by cooking other foods. (Ground beef or bacon with your doors/windows open)or taking a portable grill to grill outside. Food trails can also be set up to lure your dog into your home known as the "open door method". Food trails can include much of the same items as the food station-vienna sausages, shredded beef from a local restaurant, beef jerky or even bacon bits mixed with liquid smoke. Dogs will try and head home after they are exhausted from adventuring, so the smell of food along with the scent trail will be invaluable. Next, make sure everyone in your neighborhood is on alert, however, it is important to have other people besides yourself, the owner, go door-to-door letting neighbors know your pup's missing. You don't want to spread your scent by walking too far because this will confuse your dog as to where you are. Adults and kids can help by asking neighbors on your behalf to check their yards, garages, bushes, etc. Neighbors can be your eyes and may already have information right now. Posting flyers has contributed to many reunions. Use flyers with neon backing if possible and include both "Do not Chase, Call out name", and "Do not Follow, Call Owner immediately if sighted " If you haven't already, call in a lost report for your dog to the shelters in your area. Following the above tips gives your dog a chance at rescue. Good Luck!
