Message from Owner

I need some help! We are in town visiting, and took a trip out to Woodland Park to camp last night in the Pike National Forest. I pulled over at about 2am this morning to get some GPS pulled up before I lost reception out there, and when I opened the door to walk around for better reception, my boy darted out of the car, into some tall grass, and completely disappeared before I could even get the flashlight on my phone turned on. This happened in the middle of the night, we really had only phone flashlights to look for him, and we were totally unsuccessful. We camped there overnight in hopes that he’d come around where our tent was, but no luck. He got out at the Red Rock Group campsite/picnic area/trail heads across from the Colorado Lions site. National Forest sign 342, cascade trail mile marker 4. I’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old, he will be 6 years old in November and I am absolutely panicking not being able to find him. We’ve put up flyers around there, filed a missing animal report with TCRAS, and we spent another few hours searching for him this morning. We are in town from Iowa, and I would really really love to avoid the possibility of not taking him back home with us. If you see him or anything like that please let me know. I am absolutely distraught not knowing where he is because he is in a completely unfamiliar area.

Create a scent station (items with your/your cat’s smell - unwashed bedding, clothing, cat tower, etc. Especially important if cat is in new/unfamiliar area. Do NOT put out litter pan as feces often used to mark territory and may inadvertently attract predators or territorial cats.). Check it often, especially when things are quiet (late evening/early morning). Leave the garage door open 5” overnight. Check nearby Ring/security cameras in the area. Check in and under everything inside and outside with a flashlight. Cats don’t usually go far and freeze in a tight ball in very small, tight, dark areas when scared. The flashlight catches their eyes’ stare, especially at night. Thoroughly check inside your home, especially if this is a new/shy/scared pet. Post on NextDoor app as it covers your local neighborhoods. Be sure to check your local animal shelter in person at least every other day (can’t stress enough - in person!!! You know your pet best plus animals constantly brought in). If your cat is not spayed/neutered, may be why it is “lost” and traveling further. Hope your pet is home safe and soon. (Note: if anyone asks for money or a code as “they have your pet,” this is a scam). https://www.pawboost.com/blog/7-effective-search-tips-for-finding-your-lost-cat/ https://petfbi.org/i-lost-a-cat/tips-to-lure-a-cat-back-home-2/

Okay, wherever you're camping put out your smelly things. Hang them in the trees so there's a scent trail for him to follow. Go out regularly and ever expanding circles. Calling his name and listening and shining the flashlight. Shaking the food box. He is probably hunkered down somewhere too scared to move. Just do that all night long and he'll probably start moving around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning
