Message from Owner

Last seen by a neighbor. She’s indoor / outdoor and she’s not come home in a couple days. She hangs out with one of our neighbors a lot and he said he hasn’t seen her in a couple days. If someone picked her up and took her home and then she got out I’m worried she won’t be able to find her way home. She is chipped. She is friendly. I got her as a dumpster kitten with her 3 siblings almost 2 years ago and found homes for the other 2. Street smart, but I’m worried at this point. She normally doesn’t stay out more than a day or two. Hopefully she didn’t get picked up by a hawk or fox.

Barbara Robuck hello, yes I have done all of this besides a trap. We have a cat door and two cat houses out back. I have 4, they are all indoor outdoor. They don’t go far and our neighbors know they stay in our yard or wander hunting in the wooded area behind us. All of them come when called. I trained them to do that with dinner time. She’s chipped, she’s not been seen by neighbors, we go out in morning and in evening with flash light to see if we can spot eyes, I don’t hear her meow or cry or anything. I think someone has her. That’s why I’m posting. That happened to one of my other cats and it took a month. Someone had definitely picked him up, trimmed his claws and he escaped because the people who took him for a chip check (because he wouldn’t leave their home for 3 days and kept trying to go inside) lived 6 miles away from us. That’s what I fear. Someone took her and she’s escaped and doesn’t know how to get home. Thanks for your input.

Robin Ware yes I have done next door. Our neighbors do know she’s missing. We live on a dead end street. Thank you

Leave open a garage door, sliding patio door, window, etc. Cats will often hide during the day and move under the cover of darkness and sneak back into the house. Several cats have returned to their owners this way recently. It is effective. Also, keep walking your neighborhood, they usually don’t go very far but can be scared and hiding. Check under decks, bushes, or just sit quietly for hours to see if you see or hear your cat. See if any neighbors have Ring/doorbell cameras or other cameras and ask them to check their footage to see if they see your cat. Also think about setting a humane trap. A lot of shelters or animal rescue groups have them to loan. Cover the trap with a blanket or something so it doesn’t look like a trap. Bait the trap with a food your cat loves. You have to constantly check the trap though. You might catch a wild animal and that is super stressful for the animal (just release it asap), plus, depending on the weather, extreme cold or heat, it can be dangerous. But if you can check a trap every hour or put a camera on it, it is a good way to catch your cat. You may have to camouflage the trap a bit with a blanket or tree branches. Traps can look scary.

Also post on Nextdoor and Ring. Go out at night with a flashlight and look for her eyes
