I'm sorry that your dear pet is missing right now. Someone may have already told you, but please check at the Humane Society and animal control to see if Klaus is there. I hope that Klaus is found and returned home to you very soon. 🙂🥰

Put articles of clothing and shoes on the porch Spread some used litter around the house and yard area Look for her late at night and early in the morning when it is dark and quiet Use a flashlight to see her eyes Probably close by and hiding Keep calling kitty kitty calls and meow sounds Don't give up

There are many ways you can help your cat find their way home. 🙏 Your cat will be very frightened outdoors, and will be HIDING, hopefully nearby. IMMEDIATELY start walking around calling & searching under bushes, etc. ALWAYS leave your garage door cracked open about 8 inches 24/7, day and night, so your cat has a safe place to get inside all the time. Your cat will often show up when it’s dark outside. LEAVE a WINDOW OPEN WIDE ENOUGH for your cat from just before Dawn and until you go to bed. Make sure your cat is able to reach the window so that they can easily climb into the house. NEVER let your cat outside when it’s dark or unattended in daylight. Talk to many neighbors. Kitty could be stuck in someone’s shed, crawlspace(ask close-by neighbors if they’d check), or in street storm drains, up in a tree, etc. MAKE & PRINT FLYERS with his photo and your Contact Info or use the printable one on your Pawboost listing and leave them on lots of neighbors doorsteps. Time is the key. Be very proactive in searching for your cat. Keep walking around and calling their name softly so they don’t run away. Something like a dog may have spooked them and they can run quite far and not be able to find home again. Post him/her on lots of Lost and Found Pets websites in New Hanover County. Your cat is very likely HIDING somewhere close by. They will change hiding places often. Cats often hide under bushes or anything they can squeeze under or into. Like cars, decks, storm drains, sheds, etc. Cats may hide in storm drains and sometimes cannot get out. Call down into the storm drain “kitty kitty” and call their name repeatedly. Do this with all storm drains within 8 houses of yours both ways. Ask neighbors if you can walk around their yards calling him or her. When it’s almost dark, like around Dawn and Dusk, and anytime it’s dark, take a flashlight and walk around softly calling and looking for your kitty. Cat’s eyes will glow in the flashlight beam. Cat’s are less afraid to come out of hiding in the dark. Bring his/her dry food treats with you and shake the container so kitty can hear it. Bring an open container of dried catnip, this will help attract them to you. Put pieces of your unwashed clothing around the yard because it has your scent on it and your kitty can smell familiar scents from very far away to help them find their way home. Leave their cat bed on your front porch or deck anytime. Put their cat litter box in your yard ONLY during the DAY because at night the litter box will attract predators. If your cat had been sighted nearby, set a safe cat trap in your yard but Only during the Day. At night you will attract wild animals. Cover the top and sides of the trap with a towel to prevent your cat from being scared if they go inside the trap. You must check the trap every 2 hours for their safety!! Especially in hot weather!! Put smelly, fishy food inside the trap in a bowl, regular tunafish or salmon or mackerel cat food. Put in a water bowl, they will be thirsty! Kitty is probably very close to home so keep doing these tips and don’t give up, it could take days or weeks❣️ Talk to as many neighbors as possible right away. Getting the word out immediately in your neighborhood is very, very critical. Some neighbor may have seen him and not know where he lives. Always stay hopeful but realize coyotes are a huge threat to cats in New Hanover County. We lost a cat in 2019 before we were aware. Start walking around & calling him IMMEDIATELY and also at Dawn & Dusk. He’s less afraid to come out of hiding! Prayers that you find him soon❣️

Talk softly when calling late night and during the night to early morning when it quite out .. Might wait in between to see if you hear them meow nearby .... For indoor cats if there is any way you could leave your door garage door or window slightly ajar if possible they know where they got out and will often come back in on their own .. If you didn't see them get out check deep dresser drawers, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, under beds in box springs, behind the frig, the stove, behind or under the sofa, under or in the recliner the washer/dryer or inside if left open .. basement crawl space .. attic .. anywhere small or behind a cat can hide they will! If out cats will hide during the day and are more active late evening near dark to early morning , daybreak ... have a spot light to shine to see eyes in the dark .. they are usually close by and will often come back to the door .. or hide under bushes or decks to feel safe ! Also check crawl spaces under houses , garages, sheds of neighbors nearby ...No food out after dark it will attract area strays and wildlife to the area ... check culvert pipes .. storm drains .. up trees .. and colder weather they will get under car hoods for warmth and on tires also ...this can happen and they could be miles from home . Cats in a new home need at least 30 days to adjust to a new area and may and will travel to get back to their old home .. In some cases a set trap may be needed and monitored! A Trail cam or night vision goggles can help to monitor the areas outside! Post to Nextdoor Ask neighbors to check their Ring Doorbells... Beware of loose and roaming dogs in the area as they will chase and your cats! For automatic garage doors please place a 6x6 block or cinder block so that the door will not come all the way down and trap your pet as they can be injured! Check with area Shelters, Animal Control, and Vets offices also put flyers ... Am sure you have tried most all of these! Don't give up!!
