Our very much loved chihuahua is still lost since 01/05/2026 as of 04/04/2026. Josie's Lost Dog Alert of Sonoma County, Ca. I wasn’t aware of all this And this: if you find yourself near a dog on the loose and you want to “ catch” them. lower yourself to the ground and use a soft high pitched voice to entice them to come towards you. No fast moves! only when they are reaching to make physical contact do you reach out slowly. this works 10x better than trying to chase and catch them. I always have an extra leash in my car. I have “ saved “ about a dozen dogs then returned them to their owners.

- Creating a dog scent station from a rescue who helps reunite pets. Take an unwashed article of THE OWNERS clothing.( Socks , Sheet, Underware & Hang it in a tree ,on a fence , a pole or edge of roof & put an article of unwashed clothes on ground below. The wind will carry the scent. If there is another dog in the home take that dog's fresh poop and rub it on a rag & hang it high . Open your gates. Your garage door , turn on all your lights. Put a rug or towel on porch with a bowl of water. Do not put the dog's bed or the dog's toys outside. The only scent we want is from the owners. Please do this ASAP. Rain or Shine.A dog can find its way back from miles by following a scent. They don't operate like humans on sight or sound. Also saturate the area with bright flyers.& file a lost report with your local shelters and check those in person in case your dog is there.
