Hello, 13 year Lst Pet Advocate here. 1. You have to hurry up on day one‼️ 2. You want to do the most effective things FIRST‼️ 3. Goal is to get the word out to your immediate neighborhood NOT THE WHOLE VALLEY, NOT THE WHOLE STATE OF ARIZONA‼️ There are different risk factors for dogs based on their size, if they are friendly or skittish, and their neighborhood. Looking at the risk factors tells us which tactics to use first. Risk factors are: 1. Excessive heat- with the temps over 110° lately dogs are extremely at risk of heat exhaustion. Several have passed away in the last couple of weeks. 2. Cars: it can happen within minutes 3. People taking and keeping your dog permanently. This is a big risk factor in Phoenix and Glendale for small dogs. 4. Coyotes: if you live near a greenbelt, golf course, known coyote zones in the valley or on the outskirts of town. Because it's urgent to find your pet quickly and safely and before someone steals it, I recommend a reward with the amount first. (Depends on how important the dog is, risk factors & urgency). Absolutely put the amount because some people need to know how inspired they are to look or do the right thing. 🤨 You do not just want people that love doggies or have the time to pay attention. You want everyone paying attention. People ignore the word reward without an amount. 2nd: Location because people need to know if it applies to them. The valley is 10,000 square miles. Major intersection and City tells people immediately which part of the valley. Write up your post and keep it somewhere safe so you can use it every time. USE THIS TEMPLATE TO WRITE YOUR POST Reward / major intersection and City go first Major Intersection (the big streets) AND City Schools, Stores, or Churches nearby for reference Breed, Color, Male or Female, Friendly or Skittish, Missing / Found when? These TOP methods are for owners but can also be applied to people that found a dog. 1. Next door app has a 75% return 2. Neighbors by ring has a 69% return rate 3. Flyers have a 7 to 21% return rate BUT they reached the 20% of people not on technology. Flyers should be simple. Reward phone number big picture of your pet. NOT THE ONES PEOPLE ARE MAKING WITH AI. A flyer only works if people can read it. Most people are reading it from 20 ft away while they're driving by at 25-45 miles an hour. Can they read yours? Owners get your posts on the apps first because you can reach 20 to 50 people within minutes with one post. Put a box in your driveway and at the exit point of your subdivision that says lost dog with your phone number. Then focus on the box and flyers. Even if you have to write with a sharpie lost black small dog phone number. Lost big brown and black dog phone number do that! Don't lose time trying to figure out how to make a flyer or get them printed. Put them at the exit point of your subdivision and at the major intersection near your house. Elementary schools are high traffic areas as well. Most lost dogs are within 1 mile of home. All 3 of these reach that! Very important to focus on them. These are the TOP methods‼️ DO NOT LEAVE YOUR AREA ON DAY ONE TO GO LOOK AT THE SHELTER ‼️ While you are gone your dog could be taken or hit by a car. You can't afford an hour or two at the shelter. If your dog is on the truck or at the shelter it's safe for now. It's not safe on the street. Focus on priorities. Post 3-4x times today and tomorrow on both apps. Breakfast lunch and bedtime.
