Lisa Hardie, if another cat is coming close to the house, that could keep Flower in hiding. Are you sure it was Flower caught on camera two roads away? I'd expect her not to wander. Tonight, set things up at dusk -- as soon as it's dark will give Flower more time to return, perhaps before bedtime. And place a bowl of food out in the open at the perimeter of your property to attract and satisfy the neighbor cat to keep them away from the house and Flower's path home. If her route back to the house is clear, Flower may make her way home as soon after dark as she feels it's safe to do so. Hang in there and keep me updated.

Diana Ellis unfortunately no sign of her. A different cat has shown up the last two nights, it has a collar on so we think it’s someone’s outdoor/indoor cat, and eats some of the food before he gets scared away. We put out food at dusk and called flowers name. Around 5 I got up and put out fresh food, since she especially prefers wet food, and waited inside. No sign of her the last two nights. The first night she came on the porch but was gone before I woke up and got out side (it was about a half hour later). A neighbor caught her on their camera two roads up a few hours later. But no one has spotted her since that we know of. We have out our pillow cases and some clothes we’ve worn recently. .

Lisa Hardie, what happened overnight? You learned just how frightened Flower is, which is why waiting for her to settle on the food should calm her enough not to run when you open the door. If she does, don't go after her, simply leave the door cracked open and retreat into the room, calling her softly, giving her the chance to return voluntarily. Please let me know how it's going.

Kevin Maclary thank you. We’ve hung flyers all over the neighborhood and contacted the shelter we adopted her from so they have the information of she is turned into them or if she is scanned and they are notified.

Diana Ellis thank you! We will tray all of this again tonight more detailed to your instructions. We caught her the first night on our camera but was gone before I saw it. Another neighbor two streets away saw her on their camera as well a few hours later. The second night there was no sign of her. We’ll keep trying tonight.

I’m so sorry your daughter's beautiful mackerel brown tabby cat got outside, but please ask her not to despair. Flower is likely hiding close to her escape route, too frightened to come when called or emerge in the daylight. Most indoor cats will attempt to return on their own, usually within the first few nights so if your daughter knows how to facilitate this, she could have Flower back inside by morning. I've recovered many escaped cats and have a full set of instructions, but I’ll withhold them for now, hopeful you won’t need them. This is what I suggest your family do and when: DURING THE DAYTIME alert nearby neighbors in case Flower is hiding just beyond your property (under a vehicle, outdoor furniture, shrubs, or in a garage, shed, or carport, etc.), then, if there’s time before dark and you can search SILENTLY without dislodging her from her hiding spot, focus your efforts close to home and tiptoe around in the daylight using a flashlight, but be quiet and discreet so as not to frighten her (shhh! DO NOT CALL or shake treats), check every crack and crevice, look in, under and around sheds, vehicles, furniture, under foundations and porches, into trees etc. but suspend searching when it gets dark to give her the chance to return voluntarily. AT DUSK simply lay a familiar blanket or unwashed pillowcase flat on the doorstep where she escaped (DO NOT USE a litter box, bedding, trap or anything obvious -- it's there for scent only to give Flower the confidence to come out of hiding) along with a bowl of food (to calm her and hold her attention). Have your daughter call her softly from the doorway just to provide a familiar sound and direction, then watch and listen closely from INSIDE (DO NOT hold vigil or GO BACK OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT!) and if you see Flower approach and settle on the food be very careful not to startle her as you slowly and quietly provide a clear path back inside. If you can't wait up, set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time to return. Please let me know what happens tonight and if she's not back by morning, I'll provide more detailed instructions. Also, although some suggest putting out kitty's litter box, EXPERTS WARN AGAINST IT. I've never used one in all the times I've been successful recovering a lost cat. Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.
