Young black cat

There is a black cat I'm not sure if it's male/female laying in the grass on the corner of Ripplewood Ln/Rippling Brook Dr for the last few days and it's breaking my heart. I have a dog and two cats. I'm not sure it's a stray, someone's or someone dumped it off. He/She seems a little scared to come up to me but does meow. It's been fed and had water. I personally think it would be a great cat in someone's home and not at a shelter if the cat isn't anyone's. He/She looks young.
