This baby most likely did not go far based on his/her size. Go door to door, check under decks, in garages, in sheds, under cars, etc. If there is water nearby, check it. Make sure you post on:for the love of louie, nextdoor, ring doorbell, lost and found pets, pawboost, petcolove, petfbi, any state, city, and county sites. Let the police, vets, and animal shelters know your dog is missing. If your dog is chipped, let the chip company know also. Put some hot smelly food out on your porch like: hotdogs, smoky links, rotisserie chicken, or canned chicken. I put it on a tortilla if you have one.THEY CAN SMELL A MILE AWAY! Get liquid smoke(comes where the Bar-B-Q sauce is in the store), add to a squirt bottle with water, and spray in the trees near your house. Make a juice with chicken broth+Bar-B-Q sauce. Boil it on the stove. Add chili powder or another stinky spice. Make sure it's boiling hot and drizzle it on the lawn up to the porch. You can also spray some of this in place of liquid smoke Also, put something with your scent on it (pillowcase or shirt work great) on the porch too. If you don't have a camera on your porch, take a bag of flour. Make a ring around the food a couple inches out. Mound it all the way around like ant hills. That way You can tell what's eating the food, whether it's a dog or a raccoon or cat, etc. If you have another dog, take it out for a walk and let it lead you.It may be able to pick the missing dog's scent up. Dogs normally come home within 24-48 hours. If yours does not, YOUR Next Step needs to be getting flyers up! There's a free site where you can make free colorful flyers called postermywall.com •DO NOT CALL YOUR DOG WHEN LOOKING FOR THEM. IT WILL MAKE THEM RUN! •Check cemeteries, schools, golf courses, parks, and cul-de-sacs. Dogs like these because they are quiet. •Make sure that you don't post sightings on social media. You don't want well-meaning people running out to help as he/she will be scared and may run, which could put them in danger. • Posting a reward can also bring out people who only want the money and if they chase the dog, it could also end up running out of fear and into danger. •Do not go to where he/she was seen and call out for him/her as that could scare them and push them out of the area or into danger! You want him/her to settle down and stay in one area so he/she can be trapped, if necessary. Instead take some stinky food and place in a safe place, if you have a camera put it in front the food - to see if he/she comes to eat it. ** If you (THE OWNER) see your dog, do not call out to them or make eye contact- Sit on the ground. Always have some stinky food with you(Hot dogs, rotisserie chicken, or a small bag of Cheetos), to help lure them to you. Do not say anything or make quick moves. Your dog needs to see you, hear you, and smell you - before he/she can process who you are and come to you!!! Once they approach, quietly say a phrase they would be familiar with. If they walk away, stay put for a few minutes. They may be trying to get your scent. If they leave DO NOT CHASE them. If someone calls and says they have your dog, ask them to take a picture. If they say they saw your dog, ask them a trick question like, " oh, does he still have his orange collar on?" If you feel it's legit, ask " what were they doing- running, walking, etc. And which direction did they go in

Which dog is the missing dog? Is your dog wearing a collar with your phone number on it? Is your dog microchipped? If your dog is chipped, call the chip company to report him lost. Check all area shelters in person. Alert all of your neighbors that your dog is missing. Hopefully you have already been out on foot and in your car looking for your dog. Get signs up all over the area where your dog went missing. The signs can be simple and state something like, "Missing (breed and color)" and your phone number. It is critical that your phone number be on all signs and all posts so that people can immediately contact you if they see your dog. The overwhelming majority of people will not contain your dog. They will simply take a photo and post it and you will see the photo hours or days later. Some people may try to scroll through the hundreds of posts of missing dogs and find your post and post a comment stating they saw your dog and maybe post a photo. By the time you see it days will have passed. For this reason, it is important that you get your phone number out everywhere. Please be advised that you will get some scam calls/text from people claiming to have your dog . If they will not tell you where or they want money, that is a scam. But it is worth dealing with some scam calls to get your dog back.

You should put out some of his food, some of his blankets, toys and anything that has his scent on it. Also set out some clothing that has your family’s scent on it as well. It may help him find his way back home Also, go out at night w/ a flashlight and shine it around. Dogs eyes glow at night, shine it around in the woods by your house, in any garages or sheds, under any decks / porches & under cars etc

All the above advice + Make sure you go to the shelters, animal control, humane societies & every rescue you can think of in person and check for your dog or cat as often as you can. Don’t rely on just calling to check for them. The shelters are understaffed and overwhelmed; they may not recognize your dog or cat from a description over the phone. Also, put up flers & post on Love of Louie, Pawboost, next door, Ring App, etc., etc
