The only way a lost cat can find its way home is with its nose. They have to use their sense of smell to get home again. Put anything outside that smells like their territory. Put the pajamas you slept in outside because you probably sweated in them. Put out their food your stinky socks your smelly sneakers anything you can think of that the cat will recognize by smell. Cats usually stay within a five house radius of their own home for up to a week or so sleeping in the bushes during the day and coming out at dusk and dawn. Those are good times to take a walk shaking the treat bag calling out but cats also tend to come out and walk around very late at night. Try to keep a door cracked if you can whether it's the garage or whatever or a window cracked so you can hear them if they call out for you. Put this on all of the neighborhood pages as well as lost and found pets sites. Knock on the neighbors doors and make sure they know you're looking for your cat. Good luck PS cats can smell up to one mile away from their own house. Absolutely no litterbox outside or food. It attracts predators is why. Never give up.

Awww, this breaks my heart. You will need to focus everything on the home that he was lost from, so I hope you can keep going back there to do the following: Keep checking under nearby porches, decks, shrubs and in garages and sheds. Best times to search and call for him are dusk and dawn. Shake his treat bag while calling his name. Each day in late afternoon/early evening until he's found, put canned tuna/fishy canned cat food outside the door and watch for him. The fishy food is the MOST IMPORTANT thing that you can do because they can smell it from farther away and hopefully he will come back around from wherever he's hiding. It's what worked to get my cat back when he was lost last summer. I would also recommend setting a humane trap, but you or a neighbor would need to be committed to checking the trap after setting it. Let neighbors and mail carrier know that he's missing and ask them to be on the lookout for him. Put flyers up in the area. Post on Toledo and Surrounding Area Lost and Found Pet page to get the word out. Sending prayers for your beautiful boy to be safe and found very soon. Don't give up!! My cat was lost for seven weeks and I got him back!!

Leave open a garage door, sliding patio door, window, etc. Cats will often hide during the day and move under the cover of darkness and sneak back into the house. Several cats have returned to their owners this way recently. It is effective. Also, keep walking your neighborhood, they usually don’t go very far but can be scared and hiding. Check under decks, bushes, or just sit quietly for hours to see if you see or hear your cat. See if any neighbors have Ring/doorbell cameras or other cameras and ask them to check their footage to see if they see your cat. Also think about setting a humane trap. A lot of shelters or animal rescue groups have them to loan. Cover the trap with a blanket or something so it doesn’t look like a trap. Bait the trap with a food your cat loves. You have to constantly check the trap though. You might catch a wild animal and that is super stressful for the animal (just release it asap), plus, depending on the weather, extreme cold or heat, it can be dangerous. But if you can check a trap every hour or put a camera on it, it is a good way to catch your cat. You may have to camouflage the trap a bit with a blanket or tree branches. Traps can look scary.
