Message from Owner

My sweet kitty boy is missing. He did not come for breakfast Dec. 20 which is very not like him. I have been worried sick about him. He is a gray tabby short hair, about 5 years old. He is a chunky muscular boy weighing about 16 lbs. He is neutered. He was a stray who showed up at our hse a couple of years ago. Neighbors were familiar with him. He must have been raised lovingly from a kitten and then put out for some strange reason. He is very loving and sweet and will let anyone pet him. We call him Papa Kitty because we're pretty sure he fathered a litter of kittens that were born under our hse. All of the kittens are different shades of gray tabby, and one is very like him in many ways. He may come if called. He comes when I call him. He is an outside kitty because he is FIV positive and we have 3 indoor cats, all courtesy of the cat distribution network, and my son and daughter in law are afraid he will infect the other cats, otherwise I would keep him indoors. He has a nice heated hse where he stays during cold or rainy weather. He is vaccinated for rabies. No collar as I didn't want him to get choked on something. We have a friend who lost a cat that way and it was horrible. Not microchipped. So he wanders, usually in a small area near . We are in Rosewood on the west end of Charlie Braswell Rd. If you've seen him, please let me know!. I would be so grateful. He helped me through a hard time and I miss him terribly! Thank you!

AnnaMarie Sanderson Then I would appreciate knowing that. I would hope he would be the only cat so as not to infect another cat. Other cats can absolutely catch it from him if he bites them deeply. How else would you think he got the disease in the first place? Do your own research please instead of passing false information. If an infected cat gets along with other cats that he is with, then no, he is unlikely to infect but that is not true 100% of the time, or the disease would never be passed to other cats.

He has been outside since before he came to me and no one was caring for him at all then. He was relying on hunting for his food, now he is fed daily. Did you miss that he has a heated house on our porch? He can also get into the crawl space under our house. There's no reason to be cruel. I don't have any other choice for a place to live and my family doesn't want to risk their cats being infected.

FIV kitties should be kept indoors!! The other cats are not going to catch it from him. Hopefully someone was kind enough to actually take him inside and will take great care of him.

Lisa Maccaro Thank you for your concern. However, I have researched FIV and understand that a deep bite by my kitty is capable of infecting their cats. The virus is present in their saliva. Infection may be rare, but it is not unheard of. That is probably how my boy got the virus by fighting with other males before he was neutered. We have discussed it and my son and DIL don't want to risk it. That is their choice and I would feel awful if our cats didn't get along and my kitty bit one of theirs. I live with them in my son's house so I must respect their wishes. So far, my boy has been very healthy and to my understanding can live a long life with good care. I take him to the vet at any inkling of a problem. I do appreciate your concern, but it is not my decision.

He will not infect any of the other cats because he is positive for FIV. Please educate yourself and your son and daughter in law on that. It is rare for that to happen. They can share bowls and groom each other, they will not pass it.
