What Happens in Lost Dog Syndrome • Survival Mode: When a dog is lost and stressed, acute fear and a drop in brain chemicals like serotonin cause it to rely purely on primal instincts—focusing only on food, water, shelter, and avoiding threats. • Ignoring Their Name: Even a well-trained dog will not come when called or react to its name because its brain is overwhelmed by fear and hyper-vigilance. • Distrust of Owners: Dogs in this state may not immediately recognize their human family members and might even run away or hide if approached too quickly or loudly.

- Creating a dog scent station from a rescue who helps reunite pets. Take an unwashed article of THE OWNERS clothing.( Socks , Sheet, Underware & Hang it in a tree ,on a fence , a pole or edge of roof & put an article of unwashed clothes on ground below. The wind will carry the scent. If there is another dog in the home take that dog's fresh poop and rub it on a rag & hang it high . Open your gates. Your garage door , turn on all your lights. Put a rug or towel on porch with a bowl of water. Do not put the dog's bed or the dog's toys outside. The only scent we want is from the owners. Please do this ASAP. Rain or Shine.A dog can find its way back from miles by following a scent. They don't operate like humans on sight or sound. Also saturate the area with bright flyers.& file a lost report with your local shelters and check those in person in case your dog is there.
