My orange would get himself locked in neightbours garages. I walked around and meowed for him until he meowed back and I found him and asked the neighbour to let him out. He was a stinker.

Hoepfully just out for a hunting vacation and will return as most cats will. Maybe I would suggest not letting this wandering dude out anymore with the weather turning, However I see cats out all winter hunting birds and mice. We need these hunters to keep the populations in order but sorry you lost him and he comes back.
