Put his litter box and a favorite blanket outside in your backyard in a box. He will recognize the scents so he will able to find his home.

Have neighbors check garages and sheds. Have a tree out back? Check that too. Leave your garage door up a little so they can return home to a familiar place. Place a box outside with blankets or even the clothes you wore today so a cat can pick up the scent and make it home. If you are new to this area, have friends keep an eye out at your former home. And please: CHECK THE LOCAL SHELTERS DAILY I hope your kitty makes it back home safe very soon. Please make sure to get your cat chipped once they return, and PLEASE keep them indoors! PLEASE NEVER LOSE HOPE! LOOK UP! Cats are great climbers and looking for them on the ground only is limiting your search. Male wanderers tend to stay within a territory of about 150 acres, while females stay closer to home, roaming only about 40 acres. This means that your average male cat is likely to stay within 1500 feet of home, while your average female tends not to go much farther than 75 yards from your door. Be careful of the lost pet finders. Most of them are playing on your emotions and wanting cash up front.! https://www.pawboost.com/?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=report_pet_alert_link_lost Sacramento SPCA | (916) 383-7387 Front Street Shelter | 311 or (916) 808-7387 Bradshaw Animal Shelter | 311 or (916) 368-7387 Elk Grove Animal Services | (916) 691-2489 or (916) 714-5115 Not from the Sacramento area? 🤞Tips for FINDING a lost cat. ->->-> Cats that are not used to being outside, OR get spooked by someone or something outside, will find the 1st place to hide and HUNKER DOWN in SILENCE. They tend to remain VERY NEAR. Cats that are scared will often NOT meow/ respond to calls even from their human (at first) ...though Kitty still needs to HEAR you and keep hearing you (until kitty THINKS it’s safe to come forward: that can take several days) - so do NOT stop calling out... Kitty is in survival mode and meowing would give away the hiding spot to predators. Outside is a strange scary place (for indoor cats) with wind & loud noises. CALL for kitty consistently throughout the day and ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT from 10:30 PM until 6AM (when it’s quiet, dark and cats feel ‘safer’ to move out of hiding). VERY important as this is how most people find their lost cats. Set your alarm for every 1.5 hours...go out and call for kitty in your NORMAL, CALM voice and wait. Shake treats (if that is something kitty normally responds to). I can’t tell you how many kitties come out of hiding during these late hours…(or you can hear meows then if they are trapped in your next door neighbor’s garage, shed or backyard for example.) Never put out litter box as it may attract other territorial cats or wildlife.
