I don’t even know how to put into words what these last few days have felt like. My old boy, Kavik, is still missing. I brought Kavik home when he was just 6 weeks old, and now he is 14 years old. For almost 14 years, he has been by my side through so many different chapters of my life. He has watched me grow, watched our family grow, and has been there through some of my happiest days and some of my hardest ones. He isn’t “just a dog” to me. Kavik is my soul dog. He’s the kind of dog you get once in a lifetime. The one who knows you without you having to say a word. The one whose presence becomes such a normal part of your life that you can’t imagine your home—or yourself—without him in it. I always knew that someday I would have to say goodbye to my old boy. I just never imagined it could be like this. Not knowing where he is, whether he’s scared, whether he’s hurt, whether he’s trying to find his way back home… it is absolutely breaking me. At 14 years old, he should be home. He should be sleeping in his favorite spot, surrounded by the people who have loved him his entire life. I just want the chance to bring my boy home and hold him again. Kavik, if somehow love alone could guide you home, you would already be standing at our door. I hope you know your mom is looking for you. I hope you know I will keep looking. I hope you know how incredibly loved you are. 14 years will never be enough. Please keep sharing his picture. Please keep looking in your yards, fields, woods, barns, sheds, garages, cameras—anywhere an old dog might have wandered or taken shelter. Someone, somewhere may have seen him and not realize just how desperately his family is searching for him.Please help me bring my soul dog home. Come home, Kavik. Mom is waiting for you.
