Message from Owner

This is the 4th cat that's gone missing THIS YEAR, after 24 years in the same hse with zero missing pets! These were happy, well-adjusted cats who stayed close to home, with occasional forays into the near neighbors' yards. I really cannot explain this and find myself veering into paranoia...

Linda Aldana fences won't stop coyotes or birds of prey. Coyotes have been known to scale fences 6ft and taller, and they'll even travel along the top of brick walls. And there's no guarantee you'll hear a disturbance or find fur, etc either because coyotes can quickly (same with raptors) and often take their prey elsewhere to be eaten. If it's not local wildlife then the alternative is a human trapping and or poisoning animals in the area. I would recommend setting up a camera system or even some infrared game cameras to see what/who shows up. Have you contacted Animal Control to see if they've reported picking up any cats (alive or not) that match the description of yours?

I'm skeptical. My place is fully fenced. If the cats were in a neighbor's yard, they could easily return home if threatened. I've seen no signs of struggle - fur, etc. - and I'm on a quiet, single lane dead-end street, so I'd expect to hear something. The nearby ditch along 2nd Street is also unlikely, as my cats are spooked by even the sound of my car. I can only suspect that they got themselves trapped somewhere... But all four?

I hate to say it, but it sounds like a coyote, bird of prey, etc has learned this is a good place to hunt 😞. I'm surprised it's taken over two decades, but our area has never been short on wildlife passing through via ditch banks and walking trails. Heck, I've had a rabbit being chased by a coyote run in front of my truck right in the vicinity of this post 😕. (I hit the brakes in time, but it was still an unsettling moment.) Hopefully, at least one of the missing cats returns home, and you'll be able to keep them safe inside, in a catio, etc in the future 🙌!
