Tips to locate the owner. The dog could have run away while walking, wind could have blown fence door open, etc. Bring to a vet to check for a microchip or ask if local police or rescue can check. Put up neon Found posters in the area found and nearby businesses and surrounding local areas. Distribute to all who walk or patrol the area where found and surrounding areas. If safe, ask neighbors in the vicinity found if they can identify owner. Contact and file a report with non-emergency police and animal control in all surrounding areas. Ask police if they keep a record and will do so for this dog, bring police and AC Found flyers for bulletin boards and call daily to ask if there have been any matching Lost reports. You may need to report the dog found to police daily, if they don't keep records. Put ad in local paper, if one is available. Bring to all local shelters, rescues, vets, police and animal control. Also ask if you can post a Found poster at each place. Tips for reuniting Found Pets are on https://missionreunite.org/ . IMPORTANT: Ask for proof of ownership & some identifying mark or feature on the dog (don't list gender or if dog is spayed or neutered). See if your town and county has Facebook pages you can post this to since most do. Post on Facebook local, county, and state lost pet pages. You can post Found ads and check Lost posters on http://www.helpinglostpets.com, www.pawboost.com (most widely used) and www.petamberalert.com.
