Because he is not neutered, he may have picked up the scent of a female. Males will travel for miles, and females can go into heat any time of the year.

Post on Nextdoor and look at night with a flashlight. His eyes will glow. Please do not take advice to put his litter box outside. Litter attracts coyotes.
